Hi All,

My aunt contacted me today and asked me to help her find a pistol for my uncle Christmas. She is not doing well health wise, this will likely be the last gift she is ever able to give him and she wants it to be special. She wants to get him a classic Colt John Wayne style revolver. Its got to be a Colt. From what I've read, that would be a blued SAA with 4 1/2 inch barrel and those orange plastic grips, correct? Likely .45LC I'd guess as well. I'm not a revolver guy, especially old west style guns, so if anyone can help me find a good Colt dealer in Canada who might have something along those lines, or if my specs are wrong, I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks,

There once was a Colt SAA John Wayne "The Duke" Comemorative, on the market.
You can sometimes see them "used" on Guns America.
I think they would be very expensive if you could even find one in Canada.

51,
What is the budget your aunt has and does she want a new or a used gun?

Are we being too specific here? Are you really searching for an actual John Wayne type gun or a gun typical of what was used in westerns like John Wayne and others? Many folks refer to a SAA as 'John Wayne' type as it was typical of westerns. John Wayne specific type are considerably more expensive and much more difficult to locate whereas Single Action Army models which look like the type used in many westerns are much more abundant. Maybe some clarification to help you in your search is in order.
Thx

I am in Manitoba. Looking for a new Colt SAA with 4 3/4 barrel, blued with those sh!tty orange plastic grips in .45LC. As far as I can tell this is what the Duke used in most of his movies, and that is what my uncle wants. My aunt has money, but not time. I don't think a Uberti or Pietta copy will do. So far, looking at the sponsor sites, I don't see anything of the like available so I may have to look at other options. But for now that's what I'm looking for.

They are not sh!tty orange plastic grips, they are aged ivory..and don't waste your time looking for that combination you won't find it. I suggest you find your Colt first and then get a nice set of faux-ivory grips from the US.
Have you tried, Country classics and Irunguns?

He carried a 1911 Colt Commander in the "Green Berets".

First, check all the dealers for a 4 3/4" barrel Colt in blue/color case hardened finish. Then buy a set of "one piece" ivory grips or a suitable substitute. If you want the "####ty orange colour" grips either wait 60 years for the ivory to age, or buy fake "aged ivory". Figure $1800-2000 for the gun, 100-3500 for the grips. - dan

The orange I refer to was an early form of Bakelite that Wayne had stained with tea to look older. I know that won't be around so I'll look for the colt and uncle can do what he wants for grips

So the closest new model Colt is the P1840 - does anybody know of a local shop in their area that has one? I'm guessing no, but I have to check every option. Can't find one at any of the bigger shops in Canada or the USA.
