A co worker was given an extremely rusty and in otherwise atrocious condition break open single shot shotgun in pieces yesterday. The only marking we can find on it is an upper case R inside a diamond. The mark is stamped on the receiver where it extends back into the stock at the bottom of the grip.

Suffice to say that the gun did not come with a reg cert.

Anybody have any ideas about who the manufacturer is?

does it look like this, by chance?

It sure does look like that.

Yes, the marking looks quite similar to that. Unlike yours there are no other stampings or numbers visible.

Who mfg'd the one in the pic?

got it in one!

the pic is of a Russian "Baikal" shotgun. The marking is the Russian proof mark. Baikal is not a manufacturer, but a city with several gunmakers. No-one in NA ever bothered to distinguish them, called them all Baikals, and now the Russians go along with the gag and use the name. TOZ and IZH are two manufacturers who market under the Baikal name at one time or another.

"Baikal" is a Lake ... and the trademark of guns manufactured by the aforementioned . NVS Commerce, JSC-IZMASH & IZH Impex are currently active in marketing these firearms. Remington's "Spartan" branded guns
are "Baikals" .
