I don’t know a thing about open guns but I want build one out of my Glock 17. Can anyone suggest a ported barrel and comp combination for me. I am looking for make and model info and possible Canadian dealers who carry ported barrels and comps. I’m assuming that the end of the barrel is threaded and you add the comp of your choice?
Thanks,
Trevor

check out kkm or lonewolf on the web. i had a comp and barrel from lonewolf. lots of fun. lots of things you can switch out on a glock. to bad your about 4 months to late, sold my stuff on here.

dont need a dealer , just gotta find a gun store to buy them from. when i bought my lonewolf stuff i just went to reliable and ordered it from them. little extra cost but it was fine.

According to LWD they do not ship barrels to Canada even though they have Canadian barrels on their website! Also, I see ported barrels and threaded barrels but I don't see threaded ported barrels. Don't I want both ports and threaded so I can thread a comp on to it?

KKM is a great barrel. LWD is the best bang for your buck. You need to use an undersize die for sizing 9mm. Best comp is a Jager.Been there, done all that............

Do open guns use ported barrels with comps or threaded barrels without ports and a comp on the end? I see ported barrels and threaded barrels but I can't find a threaded ported barrel.

they dont ship their barrels to us in canada, but they do ship them to there distributors in canada and then a store can buy them from the distributor or us . all that info is on there web site.

Finding a barrel won't be an issue. What I need help with is choosing the right barrel for my open gun build. Once I know what to buy I'll find it. I'm still trying to figure out if I can buy a threaded barrel with ports or if I just need a threaded barrel that I can add a comp to.

you want a threaded barrel so that you can screw the comp onto it. you can also use ports with a comp (commonly called "hybrid ports") but that is going to require milling of the slide and with 9mm major having it work right with just a comp is trouble enough

I won't be milling the slide so all I need a threaded barrel so I can add a comp to it and that'll be enough for an open gun?

Thanks,
Trevor

be sure that you choose the right comp, major or minor for some comps can make a difference .

i had a 9mm major for mine. lots of load development, be sure that you are prepared to be stuffing lots of powder in to a case.

i know that some of the open guys can be running anywhere from 7 to 15 grains of poweder in a case. depending on what powder you choose to run.

lots of tinkernig, but if its what you enjoy to do, you will have fun doing it.

Funny, I had an G 17 converted to an open gun some time ago, not the best choice to compete with it considering the fine open guns available now days but if you really have made up your mind here is my contribution with regard to what is need it and where you may get it.

• 9mm lone wolf threaded barrel { any dealer can order one for you I order mine from the local gun shop and it came in 3 weeks time }
• 3.5 lb disconector and some springs to tune up you action { same local shop }
• Cmore scope mounts and comp . { I use Carver custom parts } I suggest you decide the comp after you purchase the barrel so you know the thread on the barrel and then buy the comp accordingly.
• Magazine well { again it came from Carver it may need some fitting }
• Magazine bumpers , once you have a mag well the original magazines will be to short so you will need them in order to be able to reload { I used Arredondo magazine bumpers }
• Obviously the CMore red dot {I got one from Freedom Venture in less than one week time }
• Holster { Carver modifies the CR holsters to fit his mounts , hey I may still have mine somewhere ,have to look for it }
• Slide racker { which is an modified back plate with an knob attached to it { can’t remember how I found that one }
• I also got a steel guide rod and an non captured spring {don’t remember from who ether }.
The gun and parts where sold long ago but I still had this picture on my photobucket account. Well good luck with your project and enjoy the pictures.

Trevor, just get a threaded barrel/comp combo. The guys here have given excellent suggestions, now just find a supplier that will bring one in for you. There is tonnes of open Glock info on the Enos forums, you should check it out.
