So far by reading here I understood, that to mount a scope I need a mount, rings and a scope itself.
Mount - everybody says Choate SKS, so Choate it is.
Scope - I am completely lost. I will order a mount from sksman dot com, so I was looking at the scopes on the same site. To me it looked like "NcSTAR SFB3940 3-9X40 full size scope with rings" is the one, am I wrong?
Will it fit the mount? It comes with rings.
Will I need a shell deflector?

Is this the right choice? I'd like to have variable magnification, do not know why though

Can somebody advise a gunsmith near GTA to install it?

Please? Thanks!

With the Choate scope mount you will not need a shell deflector as the bottom of the scope will be protected by the scope mount itself. The Scope mount itself is a weaver type, so make sure you get rings designed for a 'Weaver" type mount and not a Picatinny mount.

As for the scope itself, 3x9 seeks like a good choice, it is what I have mounted on my SKS.

Can't comment on the NcStar scope, never looked through one.

Thanks a lot, I've ordered that stuff.
In my local store the cheapest scope was $90, this one is $40, so even if this is not so good, I will survive :)

This isn't quite true. Even with a very short scope like this 4x32 Barska that is 7.5" long, it gets hit by ejected casings. You will not be able to use stripper clips with any scopes on a Choate mount except red dots.

I tried the Barska scope because I too wanted some magnification but have since given up on that. I like using the stripper clips to much.
I have a Bushnell red/green T-dot coming from Cabelas that I'll put on now.
Seems like the best choice for a Choate mount and stripper clip use, plus it will look good on there too.

As a side note, that 4x32 Barska scope is cheap money wise and quality wise. There is no locking ring to focus the eyepiece, you'll have to glue it, and it simply would not hold a zero. Maybe due to getting struck by shell casings. They have other models in their Contour line of scopes that are probably better quality, but I certainly don't recommend their AC10882 model.

I realize you've already ordered your scope mount but what about the "scout" mount that Marstar has. It's $100 but I hear it's the best you can get if you want to be able to put it all back to stock. I don't have one (yet) so i cant testify if that's true or not but that's what I've been reading.

Yep, too late, but thanks.
I did change my order though thanks to Norton - I will pay more for shorter scope "NcSTAR 3 x 9 - 42mm only 7 1/2" long" - Paul said i "may be" able to use stripper clips with that one.
Plus I ordered recoil buffer, 10 bucks will not hurt, why not.

I kind of doubt it.
The bell on that Ncstar looks pretty wide, depends how high the rings are.
As you can see from this photo of a Bushnell red dot on a Choate mount there is only about a half inch clearance from the front of the mount to the stripper clip. That wide bell will most likely contact the mount limiting how far you can move it back.

And you can’t go with too high a set of rings either because it will give you poor cheek position on the rifle stock to look through the scope.

We need a short scope with a small diameter bell that will clear the mount when moved back.
These types of scopes are available, but now were spending hundreds of dollars.

The scope you picked out will work fine, but I figure stripper clips will not fit.
You should get a shell deflector too, the type that clips onto the front site. You’ll be able to flip the front site up with the deflector attached to reload the rifle because the deflector will probably clear the bell of the scope.

First of Norton you must sell me some of your x39 in the pic!
;)
Secondly if you are plaing to buy a cheap 3-9x scope and don't want the shells to distroy it the might I suggest;

Put a Bushnell T-Dot on yesterday and tried it out.
Sits pretty high, but I like it more than a Bushnell red dot.
Had to cut another notch in the Choate mount for the rear scope clamp screw in order to have the scope sit as far forward as possible and still not interfere with stripper clips.
I had a lot of fun shooting with that T-Dot, I’m going to leave it on this rifle.
