I am looking to get a binocular recently. I found in the market the prices vary dramatically - from $50 to thousands. what are the bad thing for cheap ones and good things for expensive ones? from the parameters I can hardly tell.

I am guessing: N x L means N times magnificent and L mm objective lens. Is this correct?

How much will the coating impact the quality when you use it?

Looking for expert to give me some suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I have a pair of not very expensive Nikon Action Extreme binoculars and am impressed with them. They are poro prism so a little bulkier than roof prism binos but poro prism is more bang for the buck I think. Some day I will get some 'nice' binos though.

I had an 8x32 worked just dandy for me for yrs and yrs, then I got an on sale binoc in 10x, didn't work worth a darn, sent them in for warranty, reply was "nothing wrong with them" would you like an 8x instead? I said: sure send me the 8x, they worked just fine for me. the field of view and focus is NFG for me with the 10x. Try some out before you buy.
