Please picture s&w model 29

Everytime S&W made a change that they felt was substantial, the model number had a version change, 29 to 29-1, to 29-2, etc. From the 29-2 on they needed a stronger lockworks, as the silhouette shooters were pounding the guns loose in one season of competition. They also needed ways to make the guns less expensive to manufacture, so they eleiminated the barrel pin, countersunk chambers in the cylinder, and beefed up the lockworks. Later came full barrel underlugs, roundbutt frames, and so on. That's just a generalisation, for complete details I would suggest a copy of Roy jink's book (only in English I'm afraid), or joining the S&W collectors forum. - dan
