I traded my 10/22 for an 870 a while back and although he told me the features and specs, I forgot to ask what model of 870 it is... I wiki'd the 870 and it looks like a few variants are common to what mine looks like.

It's a 12 ga, parkerized with synthetic stock and forestock with a 18.5 (I think) barrel. There's a mag extension but that's obv aftermarket.

Is there any other features I can tell to see if its a wingmaster/express/police 870? Thanks

What does it say on the left side?

That's where it will be stamped Wingmaster, Express, Police Magnum, etc..
 
If the trigger guard is plastic it is an Express model...although the early ones had the aluminium part! Some one that knows 870s can tell right away what model it is just by looking at the fit and finish but by looking at pics it is kind of hard to tell...but it does have a pretty rough looking bead blasted finish vs the smoother parkerizing jobs of the Police models. I'm almost certain it is indeed an Express HD that had an extension added to it.
 
Yep, plastic trigger guard. What's the HD and how does it make it any different from a normal express?

Also I thought all models have it stamped on the side... Even Express models. Why not mine?
 
Typically the model is indicated on the receiver, except the express model - often those dont indicate a model. It would say Wingmaster or Police Magnum if it was.
That does appear to be an express, and since it doesn't state magnum, or super mag, it is most likely the 2 3/4 inch only model.
 
Are there any other marks on the receiver? I can't see much in the picture so I would presume it's a standard Express action suitable for 2 3/4" shells.

Far as I'm concerned, an 870 is an 870. The many variations available are mostly a change of furniture: But there are distinct factory changes in receiver strength (magnum versus standard but this is stamped on the receiver and barrel), barrel style (vent rib or not, Rem choke installed or fixed choke, slug barrel) From experience, I prefer the Wingmaster line of 870 because the wood and blued metal is attractive... (it may be my imagination, but the action feels smoother than the express) But the parts are interchangeable so an 870 is still an 870. ;) :confused: and it's still reliable shotgun.

PS. You should remove that photo, and post a different one: It probably isn't good to leave your mail (jury duty notice) with name and address on the table beneath the gun in the photo.
 
"HD" I think is the Tactical/Home Defense variant. Out of curiosity (because I am old school and most of my guns are older) I looked the new Express model up and the only mention of 2 3/4" shells, is that the magazine fits more of them (which is obvious) but this makes the logical assertion that this older chambering has been abandoned to the new standard of 3". Check it out before trying though.
 
The HD was an acronym for Home Defense. It left the factory with an 18" or 18.5" barrel and synthetic furniture. The mag extension on yours was added on afterwards.

I may be wrong but I believe all Express guns left the factory as 3" models. Only the older Wingmaster and 870 Target guns had a 2 3/4" only chamber...if I'm wrong somebody please correct me.
