I will be the "grumpy old fart" - Long Branch and Savage made No. 4 are almost always the Mk.1* variation - if not now chipped, is inevitable that the bolt dismount slot will chip and peen out - the nature of the modification. I have "cut up" many No. 4 to make using rifles - I prefer the British made Mk. 1 ones. For a "made-in-1950" rifle - was no war time expediency need or pressure - just a "poor design" that British powers did approve - back then - "of course" Canadian maker Long Branch just followed along with the British approval - so far as I know, the Mk.1* was never built by any British maker - during or after WWII ...
