I realize this idea is just for fun, but I'd never put hunting and competition together. It puts even more "pressure" on people to take those marginal shots, but that's just my $0.02

There was something similar put on in the states a couple years ago, but teams didn't actually kill the animals, they shot them with a tranqulizer dart, which to me is the dumbest idea to ever come out of the "hunting" community. While I understand this would be just for fun, the fact of calling it a competition seems to take the fun out of it for me. I'm not against it, but I wouldn't participate in it.

Truth be told, he's only talking Boone and Crockett, SCI, or Pope & Young. The competition already exists on a much bigger scale and for those out there seeking out the deer of their lives, this could be interesting and fun, and there's no harm in it. Are we supposed to pretend we're not after big bucks, or examples of any species, we're only and purely out for meat? Some may be and that's great for them, others take it a step further and go for meat and big bucks / bulls / boars / rams / billies / whatever. We're killing the sporting aspect if we're trying to pretend hunting for the biggest is distasteful, it would be like fishing but you're happy with a minnow because taking anything bigger could look bad.

I haven't hunted deer in three or four years, so sure, I'd consider it. Might be a nice way to do some simple hunting with my son. I'd prefer if it was just a deer open though, and Blacktail, Whitetail, and Mule could all be entered as in some areas Whitetail's just not applicable and doesn't exist. Could have categories for each to keep it species relevant.

I won't discredit anyone for enjoying their B&C Deer. I have a few on paper, and a few on the wall. I no longer have a desire to compete, but instead I like to see the newbies go home with a nice deer. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to find a nice deer, and push it in the direction of a noob who is picking his nose, sleeping, playing games on his phone, or not even where he's (she) supposed to be.

It was tried in Alberta a decade or so ago....the outcry from hunters and non-hunters put an end to it.

There are a few shops I know of that do this, ranges from $25-100 before you purchase your tag, at the end of the season theirs prizes for winners based on B&C score. There's also big buck night held in most towns across Alberta, prizes awarded to winners also based on B&C and P&Y
