I had a 112V (I believe it was called) in 22-250 - heavy 26" single shot - bought at Saskatoon Gun Works when they were on 42nd Street/Faithful Ave. in Saskatoon. Put on a 10 power AO Lyman All-American fine crosshair scope. About mid 1980's, I think. Friend of mine put 5 of my handloads into a 100 yard group that we completely covered with a 22-250 cartridge base. I shot many pairs into virtually one hole, but never got such a good 5 shot group myself. With the wisdom of 25 years old, I traded it for a Lowrance X1 fish finder at Hunter's in North Battleford, Sask., about a month before that place burned down...

I believe the model j was well before the 90's. They had nice look to them.

The J was an intermediate length action, longer than the current short action. Solid bottom receiver, single shot, with the characteristic heavy stock. There were 7.62 DCRA target rifles built up on J actions. I am sure Ganderite will comment on these rifles.
I acquired a J in .220 Swift with a spoiled bolt. Repaired it, converted it to .223 for target shooting. Good shooting rifle.

I can't get over how thick the stock is

Currently refinishing the stock because it was in bad shape. I guess the story behind the rifle is that fishermen kept it on the boat and used it to shoot seals off in the distance.

They are on the chunky side, aren't they. As far as long range accuracy goes, the rifling twist may be intended for the shorter varmint weight bullets. No matter how well they group, at longer ranges, the wind really becomes an issue.

I currently own four of the Savage 112 Series J single shot rifles. Two in .22-250, one in .222 Remington, and one in .220 Swift. I will post some pics once I can get that lousy Photo Bucket to cooperate.

I've had 2. One 22-250 and one 25-06. I turned the 06 into my 6.5-284 F-Open rifle.

I picked up a 112 (in 223) just over a year ago.

To be honest I have shot perhaps 24 rounds through it, my welding business just kept me far to busy this past year. Not sure what its original configuration was (in a tupperware stock when I got it), had a cheap Cabelas scope on it, but a nice SSS trigger on it.

Just received a Shilen Select Match 223 Rem, 1-9 twist, .252" neck 26" long full bull barrel profile, from Mystic Precision and my Boyd Pro Varmint stock apparently passed through customs just yesterday so looking forward to gopher season.
