So i bought one of the latest tac-14 that came in. Wood version. I decided to upgrade the extractor and the lifter spring to a police one. When i got the police spring i disassembled and compared both original and police one. It doesnt appear to be an upgrade at all, or i dont get it. The original as you can see is longer bigger and stronger from test ive done. Why is that lol

It doesn't seem to be the same diameter as the original either. I'd be calling the vendor and asking for an explanation. If none was available, the spring would be bouncing back to the store for a refund.

I'm no expert but more coils and shorter uncompressed length usually means more resistance sooner, at least its got corrosion protection. what is the coil diameter and wire diameter?

Where did you get it? No one has Remington parts these days and RemArms won’t be providing any until at least next year from what dealers are saying.

Yeah, you can't tell much about a spring just by looking at it unless you really know your stuff. It will be different in terms of material, manufacturing process, and coating.

I would still check with the vendor before installing it and making a used item. But the big question is, is it in use yet and if so how is it working out?

Like i said in the first post i did some test and the original bigger spring looks stronger by a bit. I tested both and they both load a 3inch slug 1-1/8 oz each time without problem.

Standard Carrier Dog/Latch Springs are Silver.

REM 870 Police springs are Black. These are the very same springs REM uses in their Model 1100.
Remington Part Number F16966.

You may not be able to tell the difference by feel, or just cycling the action, but there is a difference.

While you’re concerned enough about replacing the extractor and dog spring, replace the firing pin spring as well with an Extra Power one from Wolff Gunsprings. It gives you an extra margin of dependability and safety.
Unless you don’t want to increase the trigger pull weight, replace the hammer spring for an Extra Power one too.

I find it odd that you don't think this spring is doing anything, but you are selling 2 of them in the EE with a cut and paste from a post #14 about its description and saying pretty much that they are great

LOL! Good catch, at double the price that S&J is currently charging.

First i copy and paste full retailer description, and second i can sell them for whatever reason i want. Like I said i found not much difference but like other said maybe there is one not much noticable. So they are available there for sale to anyone wanting to buy them. I am still happy to have it installed in my gun because its from a police model period.
