So, i have a few problems.

So first, I have been using RCBS regular 338 lapua dies, with no problems. Recently i switched to redding competition dies, my problems are, to chamber a casing is a little stiff, so from what i had learned previously i need to bump back the shoulder slighty, problem one being i did this with the new comp dies, and now sometimes the ejector doesnt cath the casing to pull it out so i have to put the bolt back in and push forward to get it to catch the casing.

My theory is that i am just bumping the shoulder back a little to far and the casing is going into the chamber more then it should, either way i have thrown all this brass away. As i would rather play on the safe side then be at all dangerous.

Problem 2 is, that the comp dies dont seem to size the neck properly, i can push a bullet into the casing by hand, where as with the RCBS regular dies i would never be able to push a bullet in, it was good and tight. I am not sure how to fix this problem, i cant screw the de capping rod in more, then the top of the casing hits the bottom of the screw that holds the de capping rod in, and deforms the casing.

So, did the de capping dies maybe come with the wrong Bushing? It came with S, perhaps i need a different one?

The dies don't come with bushings, you have to order one after you measure a loaded round and subtract how much neck tension you want, usually 2-4 thou under a loaded round. But I do know that the redding dies come with a useful set of instructions in the box, I would suggest starting there as all my fl dies and touch my shell holder and not bump the shoulder back, others may have experienced different.
 
I think I would have just used the RCBS dies.........

At least they were working.......

Sell the Redding dies in the EE
Reclaim your brass out of the garbage
Fireform to get them back into spec
Resize, trim, reprime, reload, fire and repeat........

Seems like a no-brainer to me.......

Nothing agenst you but that was a very usless post.
 
Measure the neck thickness at several spots and on several cases to get an average. Outside neck turning is a nice idea to make all the cases even.

Bushing needed is neck thickness X2 plus bullet diameter minus 2 to 3 thou. You can expect 1 thou spring back so a 2 thou smaller gives you 1 thou neck tension. This is the min and ok for single feeding. 3 thou smaller will give you 2 thou neck tension which is nice for a mag fed rifle.

You are correct on the sized cases. You bumped them too far. You can reuse them but need to form a secondary shoulder so you can fireform the case properly and keep from getting case head separation.

The body die only needs to touch the shoulder 1 or 2 thou. You should not feel anything when you use the die with a properly lubed case. Start with the die out and turn in small increments until the case just chambers. Go in another 1/8" rotation and that should ensure easy chambering BUT close tolerances.

The base of the die may not touch the shellholder.

Redding dies are very nice and they work superbly when set up properly.

Well, thanks for the advise. I have found out my problem is with the bushings. It did come with one, but as i have found out it was the wrong size. The person must have just thrown in a random bushing to try and sweeten the deal. I think i will stick with the competition dies, as they will help with accuracy and brass life. Just a stupid mistake on both parts, he should not have told me it included the bushing i asked for specific when he didnt know or knew and just threw the wrong one in to make me want it. I should also have checked myself and not taken his word for it.
