ok guys i want to change my buttstock to a magpul. i have absolutely no experience on how to do this. the last time i fired an AR was
about thirty years ago. please let me know what i need to buy as far as all the parts that will be needed and what tools also will be required. any help would be appreciated.

If you are sticking to a carbine stock just verify whether the JR buffer tubes are commercial or mil spec and buy the correct version and slip it onto the buffer tube.
 
Are you wanting to remove the buffer tube as well or just the sliding stock? To remove the stock from the tube, just pull up on the lever and slide back (instead of pushing down to move it in and out) - this presumes you have a non-pinned stock from JRC.
 
There is a small roll pin that pins the stock fully extended. Drill it out or use a dremel tool to remove it. There are pics on this site if you need help finding it, and then put any commercial spec stock you want on it. I have a Magpul CTR on mine.
