please...School me on the 22-250

I just picked up a brand new Weatherby vanguard 2 carbine in 22-250. On a screaming deal. Gonna load for it. This will be a coyote rifle. Looking for bullet and powder suggestions. What does everyone like ???? How is terminal performance with this caliber on coyote sized critters with whatever you are shooting?
 
The .22-250 is an easy round to load for, and almost anything reasonable produces good accuracy. For many coyote hunters, the .22-250 is the go to cartridge, but watch your bullet selection if saving pelts is important. If you intend to use long bullets, test them first to ensure the twist is quick enough to stabilize them; .22-250s usually have a slow twist that are best with short (light) bullets.
 
yeh look I have seen someone shoot a lot of Fallow buck an doe with a 22-250 and factory 55gr psp bullets at splitten speeds... not ideal but it kills them every time, its more than capable..
will be blasty as they are, but plenty of speed, trajectory and power for animals up to smaller whitetails ;)
 
My first choice in powder is H380 with a 52 or 55 gr. bullet in my 22-250. I prefer the 204 for calling coyotes for little fur damage, the 22-250 has a longer range though.

The 204 is capable of dropping coyotes out to 500yds as I have done it on quite a few occasions. However the OP has a 22-250 and I have made a few long range shots with my selection of 22-250s over the 30+ years of owning at least one. (currently have 3 in the safe) I have found that the Hornady 55gr SPSX works just as well as any other bullet I have tried on anything from gophers to deer. I do have a load right now with 55gr NBTs and XBR 8208 that I use if I'm targeting coyotes but IMHO I do have better choices in the safe and do not bring out this combination very often.
 
My Rem 700s have always liked Sierra 52 or 53 gn match bullets and a bunch of IMR 4350, but yours is a short barrel so likely 4064 or 3031. I have had great accuracy with both these powders and they will be more consistent in a short barrel.
 
If you don't shoot a lot, the hornady superformance is as fast or flat shooting as anything you are going to load. For anything smaller than a coyote, I like the 40gr varmint express as well. If I go through 3-4 boxes a year for a dozen or so coyotes, it works for me. More fun than reloading

The Winchester white box 40 pack gets a lot of love on here as well, but the hornady stuff is more accurate in my gun.
 
I use 34gr of IMR 4895 behind a 55 Win SP ,Lapau brass Fed 210 primer. The Hornady SX shouldn't be driven past 3600fps or they may not make it to the paper.A buddy with a 220 Swift experienced this...........just a puff of dust 1/2 way there.It's in the Hornady manual.
 
Varget is always a good choice for the 22-250. I've also had good luck with h380 and imr4895 I just prefer varget since its an all-season rifle. 55 gr sierra blitzkings are the bullets my rifle prefers.
 
The only problem I have found with 22-250’s is that they are designed for small bullets witha slow twist rate barrel. Most need to be loaded for 50 or 55g bullets to get the best results. As stated before, the short barrel you have might benefit from 4064(my personal favourite powder for the 22-250) or h380.
I like a normal spire point round for yotes if I am skinning them, the varmint bullets gooify (is that a word?) the dog and make skinning more difficult, it doesn’t wreck the pelt but skinning can wreck it if you’re not careful. If you are just doing preditor or pest control the nosler varmigeddon bullets are spectacular and I like the Barnes and hornady also.
