please teach me about .43 mauser.

You might get a few more bites if you position this better , right now the questions seems as if you are too lazy to go on Wikipedia read the basics, go to the reloading sites and get the reloading information.

Do you own a 71 or a 71/84 ? Pictures?

Do you want to know were to get one?

Lot of bubbaed ones out there. :D Read somewhere that the Canadian government bought a bunch at one time to supply to Natives as part of the treaties they negotiated with the various western tribes.

Grizz

I have shot one of my 71.84s with some Dominion ammo and she did very well. Damn accurate too with no troubles recognizing my shots on a public target.

The flat nosed bullets should deliver the energy into the target when it mushrooms instead of passing through. If I remember correctly from chatting with some seasoned hunters in my area, .43 Mauser was used for taking down big targets like Moose.

Dominion ammo is scarce so hand loading will be your only option now. Plenty of different loads floating around out there so be careful which one you pick as these were originally black powder rifles and the last of their kind before the Gewehr 88 came out.

I thought I would also mention that I recently picked up a book called "GERMAN MILITARY RIFLES FROM THE WERDER RIFLE TO THE M/71.84 RIFLE" by Dr. Dieter Storz. It is a ~ 500 page book that goes into detail on the Mauser 1871 development and actually goes into deep detail surrounding the Gewehr 71.84, which as a fellow CGNer has mentioned, has very little documented data elsewhere.

I picked it up from a trusted book shop in the U.S. for $140 CDN shipped to my door and I don't regret it for a moment.
