Why in the world are people paying top dollar for old beat up, used mil spec rifles and parts?? I just don't get it.

I don't even want to get into the prices on the new stuff...

For some it's the patriotism of buying what little Canadian made firearms are available, some its nostalgia using what they did during their service, and some are just fanboys who like it. I'm sure everyone's got their own reason, and whatever it is they don't need to justify it to us.
That being said, I personally don't see the desire of it either, although I have heard CC barrels are exceptional pieces.

Why do people collect any theme of gun? Or car? Or anything?

Canadian product. A variety of styles not many of which have been made public en masse. The c8 uppers just released as surplus might interest someone more than an MRR given the history.

All personal taste. If it isn't your taste you might kot ever understand. Someone else may not understand what you like.

These are likely police surplus. Do you know of any other modern source of military or police surplus firearms? Most surplus is half a century old or more.

I get the nostalgia, and the collector bit. But people are paying more for the old beat up parts than the agencies paid for them when they were new. You're right. I'll never understand it.

The agencies were able to buy them. Civilians were not. And surplus is rarely offered for sale. So supply is less than what the agencies were offered yet civilian demand is still high.

Two different market scenarios.

Are these uppers police surplus? Or are they returned from the Afgan military?
I've got one coming and Ryan didn't seem to want to give us any history.

That could be a possibility as well. Not sure they got diemaco brand stuff though. Or why they would he giving them up so soon. Possible but not highly likely.

I'm a bit confused by your confusion...as others have pointed out, it's really unlikely there is going to be a flood of these. What people haven't pointed out is that these could be in pretty good shape. I'm not saying they are as I haven't had the chance to see one, but if you had bought as many 12(6) ex-police revolvers as I have you really can't judge it by the way it looks. Almost everyone looked like crap, holster ware, pitting on the back strap, scratches, etc. All but one were mechanically sound, most very good. Just because it's been handled a little roughly doesn't mean it's been shot out, it really depends on the agency. They could be really good internally, only one way to find out, and that's take a drive to the store. Since they are likely to be collectable it wont really matter to those buying them.

As to the price of new stuff, are you referring to mid to high end AR's in general? Colt Canada Rifles seem to be priced in the same range as their peers.

The exterior finish on the pictures I've seen are a variety of wear patterns. Some have casing marks and nothing else. Some have the finish well worn on the exposed portion of the barrel. Depending on the agency these could be low round count high handling guns. Bumped from going back and forth from the office to the car but little range time outside of qualifications once or twice a year.

Ryan says the barrels all look good.

not to sure if i'm allowed to cross post from another forum, but here goes nothing. kinda looks like what we're getting

I won't judge people for how they spend their money. I personally wouldn't buy one given how I've treated my issued weapons and what I know that they get dragged through. Full auto fire is also generally not great for barrels. While the lowers aren't being sold, and the upper isn't full auto, the lower it came off of was.

Like I said, if people value them, then they should buy them. Maybe they'll be worth something, or as others have said, maybe they have nostalgic value to some. Although I think anyone who has used one in combat on a deployment should have the option to buy it for $1 when they come home.

No, if they were police carbines the lowers would not be full auto. Very few patrol issued rifles are select fire. These likely were semi auto only.

They are all ex-DND that were given to a PD. The PD tried to pawn them off to other police agencies, they all said no. Some how they ended up on the civilian market. I talked to a couple of people that look at them and they are pretty beat. It's used military surplus, what do you expect.

Just perfect. I don't have to worry about scratching mine. It will look good with my distressed jeans.

My Danish IUR was the bargain of the century, it just feels "military grade", material and build quality are amazing.
these beat up uppers? I will leave them to the collectors...
