Plinking in the forest... looking for a safe spot

I was out shooting today near my parents spot, its a long cleared field with a lake made from digging clay and a natural backstop, perfect for shooting but it's not crown land, belongs to some old lady, I just asked my dad. I guess I better find another place. I am mostly shooting .22 so I should be ok.

After I watched "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg, I suddenly felt inspired to wander off into the snowy mountains behind my house, and explode soup cans from 1000 yards. Thank god I live in BC. If they ever take away my right to do that, I might wander off into the mountains for good.

edyshok (pleasure to 'meet' you by the way), you may want to check out 'Silverdale':

http://www.silverdalesports.ca/

It's only a little over an hour's drive from Toronto, they have plenty of outdoor ranges of various distances, and you don't need to take out a membership ...you can shoot there by purchasing a $20 day pass (no muss, no fuss, and completely legal).

It's family run by great folks ...highly recommended

A weekend membership there from March through December costs $80, $120 to shoot on weekdays.

Thank you for the all that info, I heard about Silverdale range, turned out to be that my co-workers goes there too, I will visit this place in a near future, I also spoke with Sport Target (hand gun range) and they ok with my Ruger 10/22, they are definitely closer then Silverdale. I’m a newbie, newer been on shooting range, so if I will bring a buddy who does not have a PAL yet, is this allowed?

It is as long as you are directly supervising him (range might have a different policy, but that is the general rule).

Be sure to actually supervise him, too...there's a post on here somewhere about a guy who took his gun-novice buddy to a range and ended up with most of his elbow missing. Gun accidents on ranges make us all look like idiots, do your best to prevent them.

I supervised my 8 year-old nephew at Silverdale with his Henry Mini-Bolt .22LR, so its definitely allowed. The little guy shot my Win94 .30-30 as well. "Whoah" was the response! (tight behind him to keep him upright)

Key is here that when your buddy is shooting, you are actually keeping an eye on him, not shooting another gun yourself.

The range officers I met there were all excellent folks. (Silverdale is not my home club)

I went plinking in a regional forest (deep enough in the forest) with my buddy, (I been told that is legal on PAL courses) we used .22 subsonic, loud enough, in 20 min a concern citizen show up asking what is going on. Is someone knows a good area near Toronto where plinking will end up with out presence of OPP or concern citizens? (well, besides the shooting range obviously). Thanks
:50cal:

Man,you should have gave a few rounds to shoot to this citizen !!!

Schneider :D

Yr right man, how stupid y can be, to get to the place where is multiple shots are fired? Any normal person would go away, may be call cops, but not approach himself. And guess what...to make it worse the concern citizen was a… female. In a middle of the woods she felt very comfortable speaking with 2 men who were shooting a rifle. People really, lost sense of reality. May be some of them really deserved what you proposed, Schneider27

or you could try being really nice, and even offering that they try and shoot a few rounds.
sure im being really optimistic here, but if you are smooth you might pull it off and in the best of cases even interest someone new in shooting.

i find that most women especially are totally averse to guns, but once you get them plinking at a target you cant pull them away.

Get to know some farmers. Most are very friendly and will accomodate a polite shooter willing to clean up after themselves. Lots of them have their own little shooting areas that they may share if approached proplerly. A bribe of a case of beer may help.
