Just picked up a crack-barrel Savage 30-30 that will end up being my grandkids' learning rifle. I'd like to know what your pet loads are for light loads and cast bullets. I was thinking of Trail Boss, but from what I read on Cast Boolits it doesn't seem to be very accurate. Velocity is not an issue, and minute of pop can would be good enough.

Well 4gr of Unique /90gr cast .310 /990fps........I use the Lee Tokarev pistol mold........3gr Red Dot /960fps OAL 2.42"........Hornady 90gr SWC can also be used.

I've used lots of 5 gr. 700X with a Lee 93 gr. cast bullet. Unique works fine. I've also fired lots of 10-12 gr. Unique or 700X with a 150 gr. flat nose Lee cast bullet.

Curious as to what a "crack-barrel" Savage is??

In my 336 Marlin and Model 94 Winchester, 175 gr ahead of 10 gr of some old AL5 powder and CCI 200 primers gives 1335 fps average with Dacron tufting filler.

Loaded as shown, they are too long to feed from the magazine of course. Groups are less than four inches at 100 yd with these tired old eyes and factory iron sights. Seated so they come up on the elevator from the mag and feed properly, they are equally accurate.

Was surprised to see the bullet easily penetrates 8" of green spruce. Basically, what we have here is a 22 lr with a bullet that is four times the weight. :)

Have about half a pound of that old Alcan powder left, so there's more than 300 rounds of pretty good plinking there.

I had pretty good luck with Trailboss. 11-12 gr under a 150gr cast. Definately minute of pop can at 50 meters. Didn't run them through a chrony, but I would say from the sound of them they just a hair sub sonic with a pretty low POI About 8 to 10 inches lower than normal loads...
