I wanna make some economical plinking loads for the 6.5x52 carcano.
Here's the plan .
I have some .166 dia. , 140 grain , cast lead , gas checked bullets .
gonna try 8 to 9 grains of Unique powder.
Just for plinking at 50 yards.
Anybody tried it?
any yays? any nays?

I've tried some watered down loads in my 6.5 Swede (sort of the same?), and IIRC they shot alright. It was probably Unique, as it's pretty versatile. Go ahead and give it a whirl.

Had a look back in my notes, and I used 9 and 9.5 grains Unique with a 160 grain cruise missile, in the 6.5 Swede. You have less case capacity with the Carcano, so starting at 8 grains sounds right.

11 Gr of Alliant 2400 under NOE 145 Gr cast.Carcano uses larger size boolits than Swede-my NOE cast are run thru custom .270 sizing die.I never did try .266 sized boolits but maybe your rifle will like it.Good luck.
