Hey all,

Alright, I've got a seriously rookie question here, that has been kind of addressed before. I have no interest in hunting, and at the moment it doesn't make sense for me to join a shooting club (never mind why, unless you want a LONG story...). Where in BC would I be allowed to just go out plinking? I'm not out to hurt anyone, but getting arrested tends to ruin my day...

Thanks!

Crown Land.

Private Property. (Where discharging of firearms is permitted.)

Piss off nowhere. (Example, a logging road, gravel pit, out at a lake.)

If your uncertain of discharge bylaws, contact local RCMP detachment and/or the BC CFO.

They can both advise you where you can legally plink outside of a range.

My personal favorite spot to plink is out in the bushes up @ Stave Lake.

Be wary of others around you and those you don't know are there.

Take some targets with ya, can't say your hunting if ya got shot up targets with you. (Along with your firearms registration & license, but that's a no brainer.)

If you join a shooting range, you can safely plink where it is a controlled atmosphere. I shoot at a range and targets are the mainstay. Safety is knowing that noone is downrange of what you are shooting. Shooting at a range does not make you a "hunter"....just a person who enjoys guns.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I will be joining a club soon. It's just that at the end of the summer I'll be moving somewhere else in the country, so it doesn't make sense to spend, say, $150 on a year-long membership that I can only use for three or four months...

...and thanks for the info, Grove! Much appreciated. I must check out suitable places at Stave...

Oh, if your going up there, make sure you or someone with you is packing a shotgun or something at least .30-06 or bigger.

There's some FRIGGIN big critters in those bushes. Gotta be prepared to drop em if cougar or bear charges you.

Back in 2002 & 2003 going canoeing with friends we encounter a black bear and it was pissed off, best buds shotgun scare the bear off thankfully.

03 was a cougar waking us up in our spot we were camping in for the night. Glacier bay to be exact, right up on the waterfront. Shotgun again saved my ass.

If your got some lil .22 or something don't take it in there. Go prepared.

more often than not, at least in every community of any size here in NB, dept. of natural resources designates a pit or open area where shooting is ok. its not a range, usually just a pit or dump site. i started plinking at blue mountain pit in bathurst!!! most fun i ever had shooting up old junk with a 303! call natural resources and ask them.
