Hopefully you didn't ruin it, I'd doubt that you did. But there is really no use in using a brush on an unfired gun, since there is no carbon buildup or lead fouling.

Don't worry about it.
Get a nice jag for pushing patches if you don't have one..... and a can of wipe-out for the day your barrel is actually fouled up....:)

Key statement being "Don't recommend".
A recommendation is just that, even if it's from a manufacturer.

Yeah, I just wanted to get rid of anything in the barrel that came from packaging or manufacturing. What is the finish of the inside of a barrel, blued, stainless? Just worried I scratched the finish, I now understand the brass brush is for carbon and lead fouling.

No worries.....it would take alot more than a couple of pass throughs with a wet bronze brush to damage your rifles' bore .... a barrel is pretty tough , and can withstand alot......

Dont sweat it, the chance that you ruined anything are slim and next to none.
Shoot it , enjoy it, shoot it some more and clean it.
Put away after a cleaning with a damp patch of favorite gun oil and with G96 you can not go wrong.
Tight Groups and many Happy/Fun shooting days.

Get yourself a good one piece cleaning rod and the appropriate sized brass jag as well as a bore guide and any reasonable cleaning regimen will not hurt your rifle. Your preliminary cleaning even if not done correctly with low quality tools would not harm your bore.

I have a good 1 piece rod and brass brush and jag, everything works great. Thanks a lot guys, my heart just sank when I read the card from the manufacturer. Hope your fall hunting season goes well. I'm gonna try and bag a moose with this Howa! Cheers

The force of the brush is miniscule compared to the force it takes to propel a bullet (copper and lead) down the barrel.

Your gun is fine. Dont worry about it.

At least you cleaned it.

I had a guy put a new Tradex 6.5 x55 Swede barrel on an old Spanish Model '95 action for me, he donated a stock too and I thought I had myself a cheap custom rifle and shot it at the range without cleaning the grease out of the barrel. I though he had done so. I looked down it first and could see light at the other end so I thought I was good to go.

Had to use a 2x4 to bang the bolt open and I'm scared to shoot it now.
