I've recently taken the PAL and am taking the RPAL this weekend. In the 2 month or so wait, i'd like to start shopping for a Pistol. I've got small hands with fat fingers, So i'm sure there are only a handful of Pistol's that will fit my grip. I'd like either a 9mm or .40 or .45 Something reliable, and goes straight out of the box if at all possible. This will be a mainly Range weapon, so the fun factor is key too :D

Also, i've read a few posts of people talking about having the proper Holster. Where would one walk around with their Pistol in a Holster? The range?

Any advice is welcome.

Hey Padawan,
I got medium size hands and the Beretta PX4 & 92 FS are a nice fit. Its reliable and easy to disasemble for cleaning. I'd go with a 9mm because its the cheaper caliber out of the 3 you mentioned.

SM

I was thinking 9mm as well. 1000 rounds for 250.00 seems like not a bad deal.

I say go glock. Runs flawless right out of the box and one of the easiest guns to maintain. And holsters are for shooting sports. If you shoot IDPA, IPSC or PPC youll need a holster

I have the same issue as you, stubby fingers. For semi autos I own a Glock, a 1911 and a Ruger Sr-9. From a reliabilty standpoint, nothing beats Glock, however, they offer a less than perfect grip angle.

1911s fit the hand well, but reliabilty is a concern.

The Ruger Sr-9 has Glock like reliability, and fits the hand like a 1911.

IMO, your best bet is the Ruger. However you are best suited handling all of them and see what you like most.

Ah, got it.

My quick list to check out- in no real order at all.

1) Beretta 92FS Inox

2) Glock model 17

3) Ruger SR9 Stainless

4) Smith & Wesson M&P Carry & Range kit.

If i'm missing one.....or anyone thinks one of these gun's isn't going to work with my small hands, let me know.

Imo the cz does not belong on that list, they have a fatter grip and are not ergonomic for folks with small hands. The Beretta is on the edge but it fits me well personally.

Also why the M&P 40 instead of 9mm?

Sorry, the store i was looking at didn't have one in 9mm. If it does come in 9mm, that would be the on the list instead. I'll make the change.

I also have slightly smaller hands and shoot a 92FS which is a fantastic gun to start with for reliability. No other gun has ever been field tested as estensive as this model. The US Army and Marines bought something like a million of them I was told. Don't know for sure on the actual no. but a heck of a lot of them for sure. I love mine for sure and its never going to be For sale ever. Its just too good.

Too bad i can't "Shoot" before i buy. I guess i can get a feel for it in the Store. But, i'm getting ahead of myself here. I still need to pass the test, and wait a few months to get the application processed.

Fixed it for you. Advice? Don't call firearms weapons.........

You can go to an indoor range and test them out, not sure where one would be close to you but they usually have a wide variety.

I have short fingers as well, I just bought a Tokarev and love it, was also checking out the M&P 40.

Once talking about small hand, I can hardly believe that there are someone has a smaller hand then me. Anyway I have been struggle for quite a while at the very beginning until I learnt that a shooter should not limited his choice because of the grip size or use it as an excuse. Plus trigger reach and grip shape is more important then the grip size. I found both CZ, Beretta or Glock is quite user friendly for smaller hand people.

As above, if you are in Whitby it should not be too hard to get to Target Sports (less than 1 hr drive) where you can try out a variety of handguns, though I suspect not a 92FS.

p.s. I'm a 92FS lover as well, but I haven't thought of it as a gun for people with small hands. It's rather known for its large grip. My hands are medium sized and I have no trouble with it.
