GameStalker, no matter what you have done to that rifle, she sure does look purdy. Hopefully you can give a range report real soon, cant wait to hear all about it :)

I need me one of them...after getting thru paying 2 grand in the next 2 months for loose filllings and one crown from shooting .416 rigby stuff and the .460 WBY off the bench...yup I want one...:) Just kidding about the loose fillings...Nice rifle and i need a smaller .416 for gophers and bunny wabbits...An I just happen to have brass, dies and such kicking around gathering dust right now...

Bought 2 boxes of ammo for the .416 today. Federal Premium Cape Shok. 400 gr barnes banded solids. Good ammo for factory? Hoping to get to the range within the next couple weeks..waiting for my renewed membership to arrive.

Those 400 grain Banded Solids will go through paper, elephants or paper elephants like they aren't even there.

Without knowing your game laws, I'd still bet that useing solids would be illegal. That aside I'd cheerfully bet that you could shoot through a Newfie moose lengthwise.

Ahh crap..yeah I believe your right..gonna check the regs just so I will know for sureThis is what the regs read for ammo used on big game: "To hunt big game with or carry in any area frequented by wildlife, full metal cased non-expanding bullets commonly known as service ammunition." I assume these 400 grainers fall under this category..

Guess I'll use these for punchin paper, gonna get the Trophy bonded bear claws at 400gr for use as a hunting round...

I'd be scared to guess that one, you would be OK by the letter of the law but you may be in court proveing it. Either way, what you have there are darn fine elephant bullets but there are better choices for moose.

The price of two boxes of shells would get you into a decent starter kit like a RCBS Partner kit and a set of dies. You could break even the first time you use it.

yeah..no guessing...lol..I'm gonna keep em in the safe just in case I do get the chance to ever go to africa..I'm gonna use the trophy bonded bear claws for moose hunting..I've read and heard they have a pretty good reputation..

So..What does it cost to start reloading..basically the whole setup??
With a 416 it's not how much it will cost, it's how much will you save. I own a 223AI, 257Roberts 358Win, 358Norma and a 375CT. Loading makes it possible to keep these running w/o breaking the bank.

You need to load some cheap cup&core bullets for yours so you can get more range time with it.

If you just want a "big gun", then get the same rifle in 375 H&H...although it's not considered a "big bore" in some circles, it is a big bore for NA....and there is decently priced factory ammo available in 375 Holland, and it won't have double the recoil of your 30-06....just an opinion...and it's worth what you paid for it...:D

 Yeah, I know..Kinda jumped the gun on that one (no pun intented)..my dealer hasn't been able to get the ammo for it yet (besides the barnes solids i bought at first), I ended up bringing them back and they sent them back as well, figuring that since we can't hunt with em, no ones really gonna pay that much to just shoot at paper.....they told me they would order the trophy bonded bear claws asap, but they haven't seen them yet as of this morning..Never really tried anywhere else, was kinda busy lately..and I'm not known for my patience..I feel almost bad...but I feel like I can let it go easier with not after shooting it. I have no "memories" to hold me back..

But it darn sure is a beauty
