Yup and they have the Zeiss logo on them.

Careful with that. Most of Zeiss' glass is made by Schott, which is now owned by Zeiss, but not necessarily everything made by Schott has the name Zeiss associated with it. Schott also sells its glass to other scope manufacturers.

And to the OP, I believe the higher end Sightron's are made in the same factory as some Bushnell's (Light Optical Works), but I'd imagine they're built to different specs. They make quite a few different brands of scopes and parts for scopes.

.

Schott makes many different grades of glass and yes they do sell to other scope manufacturers but they do not sell any of the glass made to Zeiss specs to any other manufacturers.

Zeiss themselves do the final grinds and polishes on their lenses as well as proprietary coatings, correct.

Sightron does not deal with or use product from Light, Bushnell or Zeiss.

Peter

I thought I read that the SIII was made by LOW. Anyhow, it's not like it would be a bad thing if they did, in fact quite the opposite.

You guys realize Peter is the Canadian Importer for Sightron right?

Pretty much a pointless thread at this point, since he has posted twice now that all this BS is false.

I am mounting a Sightron S11 bigsky 6.5x20x50 MOA-2 on a sako 22-250 this morning Mystic in sumerland . Looking thew the bigsky is very sharp ,allso looking thew a VX111 6.5x20 and a Zeiss conquest 3.5x10x44 . I am thinking this scope for the price is sharper than the other 2 and has a bit of weight to it as glass is heavy. If this was someones dollar budget i would say go with a Sightron .

mrak, glad you got the scope and initial impression is positive. If you can, look at a chimney at least 700 to 800yds away. Compare how each resolves the grout lines and texture of the bricks. This is when the Sightron will leave the other scopes you mention in the dust. At LR resolving fine detail.....

As for manf, I am sure this is no secret that the infrastructure to make pretty much everything is in Asia. Within this industrial complex, a brand can source and spec anything they want to suit their product needs, goals, and price point. Most brands do not actually make anything or at least not everything. This is not a negative as it pays to draw goods from the best manf of any widget whether it is lense, tubes, knobs or boxes.

Manf EVERYTHING in house is no longer effective, efficient or competitive.

Sightrons are manf in Japan and they have speced superb components that are well assembled and engineered. The real world performance exceeds anything in their price point and challenges product costing much more.

In fact, since using these scopes several years back, I can see an improvement in the lenses with each year. If you consider a scope an optical device used for aiming at targets, you will find Sightron a brand worth looking through and owning.

BOOM!! Sightron are the one i use. For now i only used Sightron s low end scopes. For the price, SI rocks. For sure, when i will have the funds to glass my 8mm, it will be a higher end Sightron.

I have a rail line out back it is a great spot to check out optics . As Jerry you are aware of the optics i am useing and i mount a lot of brands Sightron is truly good value

I have both a Zeiss and a Sightron and side by side the Sightron literally destroys the Zeiss. (conquest vs SIII) To qualify that bold statement I have had both out at the range in low light conditions and the sightron gets that extra 30 minutes of use once everyone has started to pack up and leave. The only thing I don't like about the sightron is the resistance of the paralax dial as it is very stiff. So if sightron bought Zeiss glass I believe it would be a downgrade!
