a friend of mine have a 10gauge side by side shotgun made by J.G. manton from london.he can't find any infos about it,can somebody help me with good infos or a related website?
i've seen lots of 12 gauge from them but never a 10 g.
any infos would be very appreciated,thanks.

Some photos would be very helpfull. The famous Mantons were all muzzle loaders and the last one (can never remember whether it was James or John) died in the 1840s. The company of one was taken over by initially his wife and run by the foreman who after a few years took over the company. The company run by the foreman was Manton or Manton and sons and lasted into the cartridge era. I think most of the guns made after the deaths of the founders were economy models and no where near the quality of James and John.

Well, looks to be the rather sorry remains of an English made shotgun from the 1870s. There may have been a JG Manton in London, but the gun is most likely Birmingham made. Doubt that the name has anything to do with the famous Mantons. There is no JG mentionned in 'The Mantons: Gunmakers" by Neal and Back.
10ga. guns were less common than 12ga, but being a 10ga doesn't mean much.
