I am looking forward to hunting in Quebec, prefer in Montreal area, I am by no means new to shooting, but I am newbie as to hunting, so I don't have any clue to start with.
So I am looking for an experienced hunter in Montreal who wouldn't mind taking out a new hunter for deer, bear, duck and goose.
I don't mind paying some mentoring fee, but just wondering if it is legal or not.
I am very eager to learn.
Thanks in advance for any responses. Cheers!

I have no idea if it's legal to pay him directly (guide license, or something), you could always pay him back for his gas, ammo, and supplies as a favour for helping you. :)

Best of luck!

I am not sure it is legal. Paying a fee to be taken hunting could possibly be looked on as guiding, and if the other person doesn't have a guide's license it might get sticky. Of course if you and the other person don't tell anyone else then it's not going to be a problem. Loose lips sink ships.

I think most hunters would refuse the payment anyway. Offering to buy a meal or get them a nice bottle of wine as a gift for their kindness would be a better idea IMO. But whatever works for you is good, maybe a post here on CGN would find you a mentor to help you get started.

The best way to get I to hunting without a mentor is to start out small. Get yourself a shotgun and go for a walk in the woods. Shoot sparrows, blue jays, squirrels, crows, etc. By doing this you work on your ability to pull the tigger and blow things away. Once you have mastered that, you can move on to ducks, grouse, geese. Eventually making your way to moose, bear, deer.

Wow...............I bet the CO would love to get their cuffs on you

I'm from Montreal, two buddies of mine and i try to make it up north every weekend. We're in our early mid twenties and do mostly small game, although we went for Caribou this winter. If your interested Pm me your info. The more the merrier.

We should have a national 'take a buddy hunting' day. There's a lot of nervous new hunters who don't know where to hunt (I'm still halfway there myself). I've ridden on the coattails of a few other hunters, and believe we're all obligated to pass along the tradition (and introduce others to the sport).

In fact, a 19 year old here is taking me and my son (and two other teenagers) out on Thursday for opening day of goose season. I've never hunted goose, don't have the equipment or the land so I deeply appreciate him taking us. If a 19 year old can do it, so can the rest of us.
