I am reading the regs for Ontario but cannot definiteively figure it out. I have a remington pump action shot gun, the magazine will hold 4 and one in the chamber, I have it plugged right now for two in the mag and one in the chamber.

My question is, for the deer hunt I am using the shotgun. Does it need to be plugged or can I hunt with 4 in the mag and one in the chamber?

Thanks.
John

For any hunting in Ontario, it must be plugged. The plug can only be out if you are trap/skeet/target shooting.

Yep.

Any hunting at all, Deer, waterfowl, turkeys, anything, your shotgun needs to be plugged to hold no more than 2 rds in the mag & 1 in the chamber.

Where this causes some confusion is that some people interpret that to mean that shotguns must be plugged at ALL times. I've even had staff at a gun store try to tell me that. The fact is that if you are just shooting recreationally, there is no limit to the number of rds you can have in a shotgun's magazine.

If you are out shooting during any open season however, it's in your best interest to leave the plug in, unless you're at an official range. Obviously, if you get caught by a CO walking around during an open season wearing camo & carrying an unplugged shotgun, good luck trying to convince him you were just out shootin. :p
