PM II on a Tikka T3x CTR - is this a crazy idea?

If you are going to conduct a test of optical qualities between the S&B and IOR I suggest doing it straight out of the box before mounting on a rifle and shooting with them.
The IOR may not last long enough to conclude which has better glass.

Sorry Ivo ;)

Hahaha. Ouch, that hurt...again.

Thanks for all the feedback gang, still thinking it over. Going to try it with my Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1 and see how that fits first before taking the plunge on the PM II.

I'm not so sure the idea is crazy. With the PM II you have a scope that you can "move on with" if you decide to do so. I only own 3 scopes myself. A very cheap and crappy Refield, and Sightron S III FFP that is on my TRG 42, and a Tangent Theta 5-25 that is on my Patriot Lite. I intend to sell the TRG. The Patriot is its replacement. Now if I had to buy the Tangent Theta and put it on the TRG I could just remove it and put it on the new Patriot Lite, but instead I will now take a loss if I decide to sell the SIII. I guess what I am saying is with a higher end optic you can keep the optic, and no matter what gun is under it you will not "out gun" your optic.

How do you like that SHV? It seems like a good scope. I had a peek at it in the store the other day.

Just reading up on the IOR Tactical 5.8-40x56/IL FFP, CRUSADER. Seems like IOR did well except for reliability. Is the IOR that unreliable?

I dont own any IOR products personally. I was shooting with Ivo when his $hit the bed. Have the new models improved? I dont know but if I am going to spend money for a premium optic I wont gamble on a product like IOR with a poor track record for reliability and a distributorship that is less than helpful when assistance is needed.

Less than helpful distributorship is the worrying part.
Vortex prior to Razor has a poor track record for reliability but excellent for warranty.

The IOR Tactical 5.8-40x56/IL FFP, CRUSADER fits my needs, price similar to Razor II and Victory V8; too bad about questionable reliability and support.

OP: Buy the best optic you can afford, a lot cheaper in the long run if/when you want the top tier.

Finally get this joke with the comments from MM about your IOR shat the bed.

What model was the IOR?

Any chance you imported your bed shatting IOR from optics-trade.eu and got the poor warranty service; Or was it local Canadian distributor.
I didn't say anything about a terminator or crusader being funny. What I said was funny is that you claim that next to IOR, S&B is the best on the market. And yes that is funny...

Why the PMII, several yrs ago at $3Kish prior to the RazorII and ATACR the PMII reign supreme. Lots of competitors out there for a $1k less that does not tunnel at 5x mag.
Looking for input from the audience on whether a Schmidt & Bender PMII sitting on a Tikka CTR is the height of lunacy on my part. I'm looking at 5—25x56 or 3—20x50 versions of the PMII.

My area of concern is height over bore and being able to get a decent cheek weld, as I know these scopes are typically found on chassis based systems.

Welcome your thoughts / input.

Really have to take those BEST SCOPE available, I put it on everything comments with a grain of salt. Typically no idea what the intended usage is.

I plan to hunt with my CTR so a large mag, heavy scope is probably a BAD idea. Let's add in a feather trigger. Know your requirements, nothing great for everything.
I did not know they are so heavy: almost 40oz!!! Almost 2x the weight of my leupy vx-6 3x18

I bought it here off the EE. Turns out it wasn't originally purchased through the Canadian distributor so when I approached him with my problem, he would only help me if I paid him $400 for paperwork, $200 to ship (one way), pay for repairs and pay shipping back.
Optics-trade.eu is actually helping me at no charge, sending it back to Romania for repairs.
Apparently the issue is a known problem in the earlier models and IOR has no problem repairing it free of charge.

IOR and their customer service guy, Christian, have been great just the Canadian Distributor has been unwilling to help.
Nice glass (better than average for sure) but it's no S&B.

Wow, Company in Slovenia willing to help at no charge, who would have guessed. Did you ever get it settled (hopefully)?

The IOR CRUSADER and the Zeiss Victory V8 both uses Schott Glass that everyone raves about.

What model is your IOR? Wonder if the glass on your IOR is made elsewhere or just that Zeiss who owns Schott gets the best glass.

Read somewhere S&B glass is made in Hungary???

Burnaby,

Sb has some optics assembled in Hungary the classic ones not the high end.

Schott glasses means nothing in a scope: this is the final treatment that is important.

in the past IOR got glasses (lenses) from Karl Zeiss Jena (the DDR version) now Docter as Meopta and some others and it was not well known now with the international market knowing exactly where a scope seller got their glasses good luck ....

could you tell for Leupold? i know only for Kahles ...

The model is a 3-18. Also the issue I had was with the reticle, not the glass.
As was mentioned, Schott glass means nothing. There are different grades of glass and each manufacturer specs what they require.
At the IOR price point, there are other scopes I would be more confident putting my money into.
My scope is still out, so I'm waiting to see what happens.
