No. You CAN have 10 rounds in ANY rifle as long as you're using a magazine designed for a pistol in it. So far RRA LAR15 10rnder is the only option for .223/5.56 rifles.

But if the magazine is designed for a pistol it would have to hold pistol ammunition correct?
 
LAR-15 (10 round .223 "pistol" mags) with the coupler makes a wonderful *legal* 20 round mag :D
 
Ya I have the RRA .223 10 rounders, but I see many people in Canada using Pmags in their XCR's and wondered if they were actually getting 10 rounders, or just looking cool and shooting 5's.

People use P mags and other 5/30s, because, as nice as 10 rounders are, it is still good to be able to mag rest your rifle or drop mags without crushing feedlips (think of a coupled pair of 10 rounders).

I have both Pmags and 10 rounder pairs. I just use them for different things.

Don't forget the cool factor of having 20s or 30s. :dancingbanana:
Sure, it's only five, but it looks like it could blast thirty rounds of death at anything anytime.

Though, does have the practical application of being easier to grab and manipulate than the smaller sized mags. I would not recommend resting your rifle on the magazine. Raises the risk of damaging the feed lips and cause stoppages (more so with metal mags than with plastic, but best to not get in habit).
 
There are some raging threads about the mag rest debate. I use it and haven't heard a stoppage due to it. If you have a mag that causes stoppages when you do that, toss it. I won't derail the topic here.

I only really use the couplers because they are easier to grab and fit in standard 30rnd shingles and such.

I lament our mag rules and these stupid workarounds.

Me too. However, could any company not manufacture 10 rounders....say PMAG.......with the same markings on the mag as RRA puts on theirs......i.e., LAR-15 PISTOL MAGAZINE .223/5.56 - 10 ROUND CAPACITY.......there may be some hoops to go through for PMAG working with RRA to do this but I don't know?????
 
Just a thought....not a hi-jack - just a thought..

What we really need is for a manufaturer to start making 30 round mags designated as Reminton 7615 mags. Since they are designed/designated as magazines for a pump action rifle they would be legal.

The fact that they would fit in an AR would simply be a happy circumstance.....

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
