So, my main hunting partner manages a horse farm on The Gore Road just north of Patterson Side Road in Caledon. It's about 250 acres and mostly wooded.

Last fall, about a week before the fall turkey season opened, three turkey were poached from the property and my friend believes he knows who did it. Additionally he found blood trails indicating deer had been taken as well. While we don't know for sure we suspect they may be using bows as well as guns, depending on circumstance.

This morning at about 6:00 am while listening to the old tom gobble, he heard what was clearly a box call making hen calls. This is from his bedroom window so whoever was doing it had to have been clearly on the farm property. He was out the door like a flash, trying to spook both the birds and the poachers. Called the police and they contacted the CO who got out there fairly quickly.

My friend is pretty sure there is a black pick-up involved and co-incidentally, a neighbor he suspects as being involved, as the properties abut, just happened to have a black pick-up in the driveway this morning

Any help identifying those involved in this illegal activity would be appreciated and if you know who it is but don't want to turn them in, you should probably tell them it will be an unrelenting hunt to catch them in the act. Given the deer situation, the CO has already asked if my friend would be okay with authorizing a sting operation of the property.

If you are waffling, it is these people and this type of activity that give hunters a bad reputation with the non hunting community.

CV, I appreciate you are upset and agree with you 100%, but telling everyone there is going to be a sting won't help getting these guys caught.

Dilly, we talked about that before I posted. I am trying to strike the balance between getting them to stop/leave and catching them. Personally I put little faith in them getting caught AND having a successful prosecution. The bar is high. I just want them gone.

I want them to know their best course of action is to stop and part of the reason for that is I believe in this case it's a crime of opportunity. Previous manager of farm was not attentive. Properties abut so easy access. Game abounds. No consequences in the past. Now there are. The manager of the farm and the owner of the farm are serious about stopping it.

It is now a new day and they will be caught if they persist. Better to just stop.

I have heard the worst sounding turkey calls ever in the woods and thought for sure it was someone with a cheap box call ,turned out to be a nice old hen ,so there is no way anyone can tell for sure it was a box call or a real hen so I would not give much thought to that ,as far as the deer poaching cameras even if thy are were thy can get a pic of the truck it is something to work with ,,Dutch

Any info helps the CO's. It may not be enough to nail them this time around but when they do finally get caught it gives the CO's the extent to which they wish to charge the poachers. e.g.: Poacher, sorry I did not realize I was in the wrong. CO: B.S. you are busted, no warning this time around.
