Poaching....(we assume you never will again, this is ALL IN THE PAST)
So for those of you aspiring to be lawyers,
read it again, we are talking about 'theorehtical past transgressions', no one is under oath here.
OK, SC asked for a poll, and I did it, why, because I thought it would be interesting on several notes.
Firstly, it throws some light on the bull$hit that surrounds the notion of the mighty noble white hunter, incase noone cared to look this was spawned by the Great White Hunter thread; where people who acknowledge poaching for profit, or "Cash Culling" as I call it, are still seen be some people as heroic figures because they killed a whole lot of animals.
Personally I guess my 'prickish' attitude wanted to have a more open discussion for the sake of some of the young ones here in particular who still seem to thing killing something makes you a big man, and that killing alot of something makes you a bigger man. People may want to bury thier heads on this topic, and hope the bad world will go away, well personally I would rather see a discourse that can contribute something to this site other than gladhanding and 'I agrees'.
The responsiblity to educate fellow hunters and shooters comes down to us, I see none of the
serious respondants to this thread talking with glee about poaching, or what they did or didn't do.
Instead I see some people trying to explain the reason they made a mistake, and others just saying "I did it, and I am not proud".
I have no tollerance for those who simply wish to ignore the filth that slaughters bears for gall bladders or Bald Eagles for a few feathers. If you care about the wildlife in this country an open discourse AGAINST poaching should be something you would support.
I don't poach, and thanks be to god, the one time I took an illegal shot I missed. I made that shot because I was lazy, and opportune. There was a bird close to me, and with no bird licence I took the shot. Why, because another hunter I was with asked me to and I was too lazy to argue against it. Some of us tread a fine line at times, I grew up hunting with relatives who in the day 'poached' to put food on the table. Today, the issue is wether or not you want to let the other hunters on this board know that it can happen, all to easily. Your rabbit hunting and see a pheasant...do you shoot???
For me the answer is no, the reason is to maintain some modicum of selfrespect. And I certainly will not stoop to shooting an animal just to see it 'splode'. The reality is that hunters are supposed to try and be ETHICAL, and it falls to all ethical hunters to remind the younger shooter and hunters out there about ethics. We need to keep that line crisp and sharp in my mind, and this thread may be unpleasant for some, but so what, the discourse is here for anyone who wants to read it, and not be a knee-jerk reactionary and bury thier head in the sand.
If one person reads Supercubs post stating he isn't proud, and that even the best of us can slip and fall at times, and it has a meaning to them, then this thread, and his post will have far more impact that the myriad of other winging and whining posts.
POACHING IS UGLY. Face it, thats what is being discussed, not glorified.
To me a hunter has credibility and intergrity, an act of poaching has neither.
Some of us here have had a few beer in are day, do any of you think a discussion of drinking and driving when you were a young idiot is something that reflects badly on beer drinkers, or do you think it serves as a lesson for others, hopefully telling them not to repeat your stupid mindnumbing mistakes?
As for worrying about the "Antis"....LOL.
You think this matters a tinkers damn to any antis, they already have thier minds made up. I would hope it would matter to other board members who wanted to at least have some assurance that the 'grown ups' on this board can discuss, bluntly and honestly at that, errors we have made.
I see no one here boasting about it, I do see some people who I know to be 'youngins' treating the whole issue as a *ucking joke. I see nothing funny about poaching. People can keep ignoring the subject because it makes them 'uneasy'. I would rather drag this out in public and slap some of the ones treating the subject of poaching with scorn and ridicule upside the head with this discussion.
ANTI's mean nothing here. What MATTERS is wether or not someone see's that poaching is wholly unacceptable, and that it keeps some dumb kid from poaching. We don't need to worry about anti's we need to worry about the poachers. Poachers give the anti's fodder, not us decrying poachers, and showing that we loathe the act, and seek redemption if we made the mistake of once doing it.

Not to flame on you but just curious Dosing, have you ever posted a subject that isn't a poll? :? Are you keeping track of all these poll results for a reason (ie: writing a paper or thesis) Just wondering :?
Well there is a search feature at the top of the page, you could have used it
Since I guess you would rather drag this out in public rather than use that feature, I'll help you. There are two threads that aren't polls still on the pages. There are alot more polls. Some of the polls were open-ended and so will be there forever. My newer polls are 14 or 21 days. After that they will be subject to the automated cleaning.
As for your other question....Are you a Cop, my Mom, or writing a book :?:
