Podolsk SVT-40 at leverarms

I received my 1941 Podolsk on Monday finally, not sure why Canada Post held it so long, anyway here are some pictures.

I took quite few more but don't wanna overflow this post with pictures that aren't super amazing so the rest of the album is here for those who wanna check it out http://imgur.com/a/Nb8mW

You've got yourself very scarce variation of late Podolsk rifle.

So I was taking a closer look at the photos I took today and upon closer inspection it looks the year is double stamped. Is this a normal/common occurrence?

I'll try and post some pics of mine for your comment as well! It's completely disassembled and cleaned at the moment.

I've got mine apart...now for the cleaning! I too will try and get some pics up eventually, just don't have access to a camera at the moment.

yedee - Triple dated, very cool! Wonder what happened at the end of the "circle" of the Podolsk emblem? Ivan had one too many and couldn't connect the dots? Slipped?

Comrade Vodka !

I made an album of the "Hand Select" 1941 Tula they sent me instead of the 1940 Izhevsk that I requested. Lots of photos so didn't wanna bombard the thread again. http://imgur.com/a/fXn2b

SOme pics of my Podolsk....was soaked in cosmo. Took it apart, cleaned, let metal parts sit in a bath of Hoppes Elite oil and reassembled. Interesting cartouche on the stock, 2 crossed hammers inside a circle. Never seen this on any other of my soviet rifles.

Bore is.......meh. Dark, rifling is there but seems shallow I guess this rifle saw action (or Ivan didn't bother to clean it). I've scrubbed it extensively, might put a few rounds through to see if it helps. My M91/30 had a similar bore until I put about 20 rounds of non-corrosive commercial ammo through, gave it a good solvent soak and scrub, actually brought the bore right up! Go figure...

Man, great looking rifle, it cleaned up nicely. How's the bore?

Had My SVT-40 to the range today started with the gas setting that it came out of the box with 1.3 , that was too low would not eject , stepped up to 1.7 and that was too much , slammed the bolt back to fast causing failure to feed . set it to 1.5 and it works perfectly ran 80 rounds through it without an issue after that . the sights are dead on at 100 meters what ever you point at gets hit . its just as fun to shoot as my SKS when shes running good , with a little more punch though lol (PS using Norinco surplus ammo from CanadaAmmo)

Took my Podolsk to the range today too. Set the gas at 1.3 and it didn't cycle properly, casings would not eject. Set it to 1.5 and 3/5 would cycle properly. Looks like I have to crank it up to 1.7. Here's a pic of grouping at 50 metres with sights as-is. Looks like I'll have to drift the sight left, post did look a little off centre but
10 rounds confirmed it.

Nice rifle Irons, my 1942 Mosin Nagant has that crossed hammer mark on its stock also. I'm not sure what it means either.

Move rear sight the same direction as you want the POI to move. (Raise site to raise impact...)
Move front site OPPOSITE direction as you want POI to move. (drift to RIGHT to shift group to left)

Oops yes drift "right" is what I meant to say :)
