POI change between ammo brands

Hello. New to the forum and relatively new shooter here so be gentle lol. So I took the old sks out to test out some sp and had a couple surprises. First being of the three loads I tried, all shot around an inch at 50m!!, (that's very good for that rifle) the second being the poi between the different brands shifted as much as 6-8" at 50m. I only shot three rounds of each so a very small sample but at first blush it seems they all shoot to a very different poi. Is this normal? I'm at work right now but maybe tomorrow I can figure out how to post a pic of the target. Anyway thanks to anyone who replies, even if it's just to call me a crap shot haha. Also, mods let me know if this should be posted to a different forum.

I have never did much with the SKS's but have seen it in others rifles.
In my revolvers in 38 and a 9mm , I see changes with different types of ammo.
45 1911 , the poi will change between factory hard ball, and lead re loads.

I have seen it with a few different guns. Hand my SKS out this morning. Three different types of surplus run through it. Two printed in the black at 100 meters and the third was hitting top above the black. Change the bullet weights and it can get worse. I have a scope on my SKS so easy to dial it down into the black. I have the dials marked for my regular load so easy to reset.

Ya tbh I was quite surprised myself as I'd seen much smaller shifts with ammo I'd tried previously(but much larger groups) but with this stuff it was extreme. Either way I'll take a 2moa'ish sks any day. Sucks cause I've gotta waste precious ammo sighting in and I gotta imagine it'll be a while before I see hornady black/rem core lokt/ppu psp on the shelves again. Eh w/e hopefully I'll only need one shot per animal lol

Normal, especially for semi-automatic. If you want a nice SKS, buy the Russians, if you want an accurate one, the Chinese are better. That's why they went up in price more than the Russians.

Here is some SKS ####. Just acquired this early import with professionally installed VZ folder. All matching, still have the original stock and tastefully pinned.

Still needs some mods, like VZ grip and different mag. Not sure about the glass either, we will see but I like the idea of still being able to use the clips.

Scianna54, normally I'm not as into the molded sks's I see here and other forums (reddit lol). But this one's great. Love how the colour and form of the stock fits the original "feel" of the gun and especially dig a proper drilled and tapped mount. Too many flimsy plastic stocks with mounts that look like they barely grasp the cheap red dot on top. Don't get me wrong, I like dicking with stuff to and I just might start playing with mine, but I feel like a lot of molded sks's don't actually work any better then stock. If I ever get an optic it'll be drilled although I may just go tech sights. Other then that a butt pad to extend lop, maybe a trigger job and she's set. Btw I have a Chinese sks. Looks like ####, shoots great with the right pills. I gotta ask though, how comfortable is the stock to shoot with the folder/scope hight?

Everything is solid. Haven't shot it yet though but the height of the scope feels perfect. Somebody did a good job. I was very sceptical at first but love it more every day when handling it. Will bring it to the range soon.

nice but you need a cheek rest. that wire stock is really brutal. you can paracord it or made a matching wood rest like the FSN01W in the link.

Yeah, I get it. It had some padding on it but I didn't like the look of it. More of a zombie apocalypse gun for shooting off the hip, lol.

Or I flip it for 2K - seems reasonable considering what some people are listing their stuff for. One in a kind.

Sold another type 81 for 1,600 - where is the 1.2K guy when you need him? But if TI won't get his next shipment, that will probably be low.

then what you need the scope for if you are gonna shoot from the hip?

they are already made and sitting in the factory warehouse so its not a question of IF but when. TI said june but me thinks its gonna be later, july or august. so yes, we will see it go higher than $1600.

Hmm, if I shoot it from the hip, then my chipmunk assistant can guide me in using the scope.

POI shift is normal between brands, and especially normal when you mess around with different bullet types/weights. I have a bolt action in 5.56 that will go up/down and left/right with different bullet weights, so I ditched the rest, bought one type to reload, and zeroed for that specific round.

Just set the sights for the brand you shoot the most, or if you hunt with it, just zero for your SP ammo.

Ya I figured it wasn't all my fault cause the groups were ok so had to do with the load. Just surprised me cause I know old dudes that'll just grab whatever laying around, stuff it in the gun then go hunting for the day. Ant see that working out well with this gun

If you are into no-nonsense (some people read that as "dry") ammo comparison, the venerable Paul Harrell on YouTube recently did a multi-brand 7.62x39 ammo comparison. POI shift is pretty evident between brands

Haha love Paul. Haven't seen too much of the latest stuff cause it's been more pistol/defense type content but l dig his video. Has a pretty sharp wit while he's at it
