So I was sighting in my Henry 22LR with a Simmons 3-9 22 mag scope at the range today and realized that at 25 yards switching from 3-9 causes a 1 inch to 1.5 inch change in elevation of point of impact . Is this normal for a "lower end " scope ?

Doesn't have adjustable parallax . It's set at 50 yards parallax free I believe . Kelly Timoffee what do you mean by zero or point of impact ? I shot 3 shots at at a circle on my target on 9x and another 3 with 3x zoom . 3x always shoots lower . Didn't change my rest or where I was resting the gun either .

I definitely happens, not just in cheaper scopes, though the more you pay the less noticeable it gets, normally. Even with expensive scopes though, most will not touch magnification during a match, its definitely best not to unless you absolutely have to.

Well it's a 80 $ scope ... all the reviews online seemed good though . Maybe I need to upgrade just didn't wanna spend a lot of money on a 350 $ 22.

Yes. at the price point and that brand it is common. For more expensive scopes this is not the issue that it once was. Most good scopes these days will track across the range of magnification. Time to upgrade.

When you change your magnification your reticle also changes in size in relation to your target.Stare through your scope as your crank it up and down watch where the thick part of the cross hairs move to.Now , if your reticle isn't perfectly centered or in line as it should in relation to the center of your optic it will move also, and likely does due to the quality of the scope.

Your ZERO , dead center shouldn't change if the scope is proper even then it still can.

Shoot a group on 3 or 9 then place your cross hair on the group ,adjust to the other end of magnification and watch for movement, then you will have your answer, or at least be able to see what is happening.

Thanks I'll try this next time I'm out .

Not unexpected with a second focal plane variable scope which is economically priced and not unheard of under certain conditions even with expensive variables due to design and tolerances. You are actually pretty fortunate that the deviation seems to be predictable.
