POI/Group sizes with different muzzle devices. Range test and pic.

I just got the NEA heavy brake. I can't screw it all the way down flush before it clicks and it has a little play - it wobbles maybe 1/2 a milimeter or thereabouts and feels loose. Is that normal and safe to shoot with?

Sure, it's safe. It's the way the OEM muzzle devices are designed to attach.

All of my muzzle devices are as purchased and use the factory detent to lock in place. None have been modified to fit tight to the sight base with the detent engaged.

Stevo, I think i know why you got poor results with a "Heavy" brake on your CSA carbine.. First, on CSA muzzle thread is very weak/loose compare to CZ 858 (at least judging by my rifles) Also i noticed that the hole on heavy brake is very small compare to the other m/brakes, almost has no extra room once the bullet is inserted, so if it sits loose there is a possibility of bullet touching the brake and get redirected.
It really felt that i have tightened up the groups after grinding a brake to a perfect fit.

I noticed the exit hole was smaller than on the Czech mil brake, for example.

However, there's no signs of bullet strikes on the brake.

Or Dmitri it could be so loud that it is actually causing the shooter to flinch causing eratic groupings?
Still it's a very good design.
Stevo have you tried the Dlask flaming pig brake for the 858 platform? I would like to know what you like or dis-like about that brake on your shorty.

Is it a brake? Dlask advertises it as a flash suppressor.

Spending $100 to hang a half pound device on the end of my carbine doesn't appeal to me.

I does reduce some flash, but it's really more useful as a "gas booster" to increase gas dwell time for SBR's or under gassed rifles. It's also great at forcing blast away from the shooter, making an SBR much more pleasent to shoot.
