Pointed bullets in a 30-30

Here is an example of pointed bullets in a tube magazine. Blew the tube cap off and spring and all went down range. No injury because the cowboy shooter was pointing the gun down range when he levered the next round into the chamber and that was when it decided to let go.
And no, it wasn't me or mine.

try handloading and single loading 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. Should be able to get 2500 fps and if you sight it + 2" @ 100 yards, it will only drop 6" @ 250 yards where it will land with 1950 fps (1050 ft lbs energy). If your 30-30 is scoped, you should easily be able to take advantage of this range. If you're shooting peep sights you probably wont be able to shoot accurately enough to use more range than what a 150 gr flat point will give

Dam tough to beat the Leverevolution ammo......even handloading it's hard to get the velocities they squeeze outta that 160 grain.

They definately are a slight step up in zoom for the Old 30wcf.

However I do think that inside 200 meters the gains in BC with a "spitzer" type bullet are minimal.....but then I prefer the 170 Flat Nose/round nosed bullets in the Dirty Thirty

Leverevolution ammo, and bullets are safe in tube mags according to Hornady. With these you can use a full tube.

I did a lot of experimenting with other pointy bullets years ago, in my Winchester '94.
Never put more than ONE cartridge in the tube, and one in the chamber when trying it. You do gain flatter trajectory, and a longer point blank range. However, the rifles are not great at long range to begin with, and the bullets are designed for higher velocities and don't expand well when started off at 2000 fps.
My conclusion was that it's not broke, and I gave up on pointy bullets, including the new ones.
I've taken moose with the 30-30 with regular bullets, that's all I need the little cartridge to do.

Yes, give the Hornady Leverevolution ammo a try! Its a great product at a great price, I was regularly hitting water jugs at 200yrds with my Winchester 94 with open sights.

It doesn't take Hornady's fancy new ammo to achieve this by any means.

They list them in Bulk on thier (Horny's) website now but I haven't heard if they are available like that for reloaders up here yet ? Anybody know

I wouldn't expect them until spring, most shops will not even get a chance to order them until next month
