Pointless putting a 100$ scope on a 300-550$ rifle?

Put the best glass on it you can afford. Even if you see no big improvement in your scores, better glass is easier on your eye strain and makes it more comfortable to shoot. Several of my guns have scopes equal in value to the gun and I don't look at the scopes as an accessory, it is as much a part of the rifle as trigger or barrel is....thats the way I see it.

most of my .22 shooting is plinking or shooting grouse-under 50 yard shots, and I find the bushnell 4X .22 scopes quite adequite for that.

Yea that. Once you taste to good glass, you understand why they worth the money. But go with the best you can afford. Cheers.

It also depends on what you're using it for. If your just punching paper I wouldn't change it. If its for hunting you could always do better.
I agree. Unless the OP is getting into specialized target shooting such as .22 long range or silhouette then a low-end scope will be fine on his 452.

Hunting puts greater demands on a scope than plinking at the range on a sunny day. The ability to withstand harsher environments, better light gathering, greater ability to maintain zero and less likelihood of fogging are all reasons to use better quality optics when hunting.

I own a pair of World Class Tasco rimfire scopes. I paid maybe $100 for the both of them. But I'll tell you now those scopes have held up fantastic over the years. Clear and bright enough for gophers in the fields and grouse in the trees. I've had them on T-bolt, CZ 452, several Savage MKII's, Ruger 10/22's and a pellet rifle. Just for s**ts and giggles I put one on a .30-06 to see how it would hold up, it survived to tell the tale. Low cost doesn't have to mean low quality. :)
