shoot a polar bear with a 308 and it'll die...you might have to chase him on dogsled for a half a km, but he will die :D should be easy to find a blood trail if needed

good luck

My last polar bear hunt was two years ago and I used a remington model 700 .308 we had to use a harpoon as will cause we where on the pack ice. It was swimming under the ice My cousin and I where running after the bear jumping ice to ice he had the harpoon and I had the rifle we finally got to the bear and it was right under us coming up for air. When it came out of the water the bear had his mouth open like it was ready to attack I told my cousin to harpoon it but he told me to shoot it first so I shot then he finally harpooned it on the neck. We had to use a boat to put the bear on the ice. the bear was a male 11 feet long.

Hope this year I won't get that close.
