These are supposed to be good for tight trails. Anybody try hunting with one? Are you better off with a quad and wagon?

I looked at one heavily last fall before I bought my Sportsman as I really liked the compactness and ability to ride 2-up and it is true they are a 50" utv which is only 2" more than most atv's but they are longer and quite a bit heavier which is most certainly a consideration when hunting. Great on trails, but if you had to get off road and worm your way through the bush, these just aren't as nimble or easy negotiate through the terrain and because you are sitting and using a steering wheel very difficult to use "body english" to get around/through obstacles. I would love to have one, but as I can only justify one machine in the garage I had to go with an atv as my main uses are hunting/fishing/getting to and from camp.
As far as trails go, these will just about go where any quad will go. Its when you get off the trails that you'll have more difficulty,

Trees laying across trails at head or handlebar height are a big problem for the guys on UTV's where those on an ATV can simply duck to get under the tree.
The longer wheelbase makes for a much wider turning radius making many tight trails impassable on a UTV.
The much heavier weight of UTV's makes them much more prone to sinking in bottomless mud and snow where an ATV could easily pass.
Some trails around here have weight limits to prevent excessive trail damage meaning no UTV's.
We ride with UTV's often and no matter how crazy the drivers are the rest of the group is always waiting on the UTV's or are forced to take alternative trails for one reason or another.

Most 500-700 cc quads are in the low to mid 40 HP range with about 200 lbs less weight, so not a huge difference especially considering the different steering system and added cargo capacity of side by sides. I've talked to a few dealers from all the big name manufacturers lately. All have said quad sales are slow at best the last few years, side by side sales on the other hand are through the roof.

You posted a picture of a single seater machine, which is basically an under powered and overweight ATV with a steering wheel and roll cage, and then start talking about the added storage and increased sales of side by sides. A side by side is a machine where people can sit side by side and people are buying them because of the social benefit of having someone beside you to experience the ride with you. Second, why are you talking about 500-700 cc machines when you posted a 327 cc machine? A 900 lb machine with 32 hp is a slug.
Grizzly 350 - 350 cc, 570 lbs, 30 hp. More than 300 lbs lighter with only 2 hp less. HUUUUUUUGE difference in the "fun factor".

Grizzly 350 = .052

There's no "fun factor" in any quad and side by sides for me, they're sluggish work machines, unless you're talking a 1000cc RZR side by side that costs nearly $30,000.
Dirt bikes are for fun. 450cc, 55 HP and 220 lbs. makes pretty much any quad/sxs feel anemic.
