Police armourer job in Ottawa - closes 3 Aug

I hope the vacancy not due to another Sig going off.
Parliamentary Protective Services (PPS) does not use the Sig P320 platform.

Interesting eh. And to think that up until the day Cpl. Cirillo was murdered , these guys were unarmed. I was amazed to hear that. Now they need an armourer.

Cpl Cirillo was killed at the National War Memorial which is actually the jurisdiction of Ottawa Police Service and not the Parliamentary Protective Services. Both services are armed. The tragedy of Cpl Cirillo being killed is that OPS is not simply there nor has the capacity to act as close protection of ceremonial troops performing duties part of the National Sentry Programme. Since then, CAF Military Police have been afforded ability to provide that support.

Armed with an empty rifle isn't actually armed. IMO. - dan

Yes, but the killer then ran past the unarmed parliamentary police into the building and was finally killed by the sergeant at arms who kept a Glock in his desk.

The ceremonial troops (eg Cpl Cirillo) only have an empty rifle and were never expected to have to defend themselves. I wasn't referring to having a C7 and no means to use it. Rather I mentioned (CAF) Military Police being involved since that incident, as on-duty MPs have loaded pistols and carbines as well as being given peace officer status on those grounds where OPS and PPS are unable to provide protection.

The force protection measures of the actual Parliament building were indeed antiquated. In fact, I'm not sure (nor have I looked specifically at the details) on whether there was an armed PPS officer or simply a commissionaire as entrance guard at the time. Those (PPS) on active patrol would be armed however.

Odd that they have the position as an AS-05 those are normally an Administrative or Management, and program support.

EG, GL or GT classification would be more appropriate.
I thought so too. GT is general trades and is a very broad classification. EG is Engineering and sometimes requires diplomas or certificates. Not sure what a GL is - general labourer? PG would have to be tied to a project. This looks FT for the duration.

Didnt more than one person fill him in?

Cool job opportunity hope a CGNer snags it
