Has anyone heard of any police officers sezing of holding 14" barrelled shotguns until they are told otherwise? I have heard of this happening here in Alberta, but it was about 4 or 5 th hand.

I have talked to a few cops who have thought the 14 inchers were LEO only. Even when I explained the rules and regs they did not believe me, as they thought nothing was legal if under 18 inches...

I guess it depends on who you get...

As long as your registration matches the actual gun, there's not really much they can do. That is providing you're not breaking any laws with that 14" shotgun... ;)

I mever had a problem carrying mine with cops or ministry, but I wouldnt be suprised.
I heard of it, and it did weigh on my mind to be honest with you, but didnt have a problem...

The CFC has a hotline for LEO's just keep it handy.. when they claim they want to seize it.. demand they call it and verify it with the CFC. they will prove him wrong on the spot.. (and you can laugh your a$$ off at them!!)

A local gun shop was saying that after Dec 5 there will be new rules in ontario that there is no allowance for factory 14 and shorter. Dont understand what he was so excited about. He was told by law enforcement not the CFC.
Are the cops here stupid or what? me think so

Yes, yes they are. There is no provision in law to make something like a factory gun prohibited unless it meets the definitions outlined in the Firearms Act. Feel free to inform the individual that his breath smells, as he's talking out his ass.

i would hope that Conservation Officer would now be up north counting trees for not knowing his job:rolleyes:

I hate to say it but the rank and file police donot seem to know much about whats legal and whats not.

So probably best to carry some paperwork with one to show that the shorter barrel shotguns are legal to own/possess... ;)

I know a lot of people will say "why should I have to"? But I'd do it just to avoid any hassle. Besides I don't want my nice Remy sitting down at the cop-shop in their damp lock-up room rubbing up against & getting scratched by some old bubba'd Enfield they just seized while they 'sort out' my issue. :D
