Police shootout video lesson, bring enough ammo!

At 7.05ish you can see the officer retrieve the shotgun and starts shooting at 8.41, but since he didn't have any extra ammo for it, it ran empty VERY quickly and was then of course useless. I have to wonder that if he'd be able to keep shooting, the female officer might not have been wounded?

A sidesaddle, buttcuff or belt mounted shell caddy might have helped, {assuming he was authorized to carry extra shotgun ammo to begin with} but IMO nothing beats a shoulder bag for quickly grabbing a bunch of shotgun ammo.

Just throw the strap over your head and you've got 50 or more loose rounds ready to go.

I rock one of these 3 cell bags but even something like a dump pouch will work.

I thought that was a sg coming through the windshield, buddy got lucky there. Nice pistol shooting and reloading tho, that officer has a pretty good manual of arms. As to your point 870P, my question would be to the effect of what is issued as far as extra sg ammo? Since all cruisers are equipped with a loaded sg in the trunk its possible only the ammo in the tube is available. I could see city councilors forcing the removal of all extra ammo from cruisers after a few shotguns get stolen out of them. Or perhaps its kept somewhere else? Unfortunately equipping a police force is a highly politicized boondoggle at times and keeping them up to date with the best equipment and training requires an act of God. So they go out often under equipped.
Regarding your carry options, I like that bag. I have looped carriers on a chest rig but it only carries 12. Is that a molle panel or dedicated panel?

It's a standalone shoulder bag that incorporates a waist belt.

It can hold up to 25 rounds in each of the pouches, plus the panel on which they're mounted opens up and can accommodate at least 50 more rounds.

I typically run it with just 15-18 rounds in each of the front pouches though as its more manageable.

The officer with that shotgun was not shooting effectively however he was good at making noise - for a bit at least...

I have a couple of those Olongapo Grab and Go Bags, green for the 12 ga and coyote for the 20. Very good piece of kit, I've been trying to get the owner of OO to make me a couple up with just the one shell pouch on the front and a larger GP pouch at the rear of the panel for an IFAK, no luck yet. As an aside, I was informed by Brownells that it was my constant harping and #####ing tot hem that got them to finally carry the shotgun bag as prior they only carried the AR 4 cell mag pouches...

Its hard to stay, but he was shooting at a target that was mostly behind cover from what appears to be about 40 yards away, using a bead sighted shotgun that's probably randomly issued so things like patterning and sight point-of-aim are bound to be unknowns.

Many shotguns simply will not pattern regular grade buckshot effectively at that distance, so much that even a man sized target in the open will only catch a pellet or two. Buckshot is also not very good at penetrating auto glass, especially at a distance.

Pretty sure it's in Unforgiven too...the scene with the one armed deputy loading his gun...

Bingo...

That video is not showing up. The movie I was referring to was "Open Range" with Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall And Annette Bening. Very few movies 15 years on I still feel is worth remarking on but this is one of them.

Interesting to note, at around 2:23 mark, the bus driver was mostly likely scared to death and tripped on the ground while running for cover to the side of police cruiser. At 2:29, kudos to the passenger with red t-shirt who already got away but run back to help the driver out.

Huh...that's weird...it's not showing up for me now, either. But, if you go to YouTube, the clip from Unforgiven is called "Clean and loaded".

But, here is the link again...just in case it works now.

...and it seems to work now...

There it is, thanks and damn. Time to tested for early onset dementia. I watched both these movies around the same time. Regardless, that lesson can not be minimized.

Would hate to be killed for lack of shootin back (or something like that). Name that movie.

There was the 1986 Miami FBI shootout made into a TV movie that comes to mind.

Here's a clip of the take down shootout where several agents ran out of ammunition

Hence my "just making noise" comment - you articulated it far better than I...
