Police Sidearms

My friend is a Sheriff downtown, he carries the SW 5946 without the RCMP, the CO's I have met carry a Glock 22, although a number of them have been up for sale, I don't know why.

Anyone have a good picture of the RCMP Logo on the SW?

Sheriffs use the 5946's that the Auxiliary RCMP members had before they were disarmed. The auxiliary program is a provincial program, and therefore, the pistols were purchased and belonged to the province, not the RCMP. Need a semi auto + have a bunch collectng dust = 5946 for the Deputy Sheriff's. The guy's I have talked to seem happy with them, and I have seen a few who can use them with alot of skill.

So much for Glock or any similar design. The M&P may be one of the few commercially produced guns that meets all these requirements.

A SIG P229 DAK might be o.k. if it was set up with a bit heavier trigger pull and a mag disconnect, except it doesn't have interchangable backstraps.

The only pistols that have interchangable backstraps that I can think of are the M&P and Walther P99. A P99 in DAO or QA (trigger too light?) with a decocker would probably meet all the requirements other than the mag disconnect (which almost no popular 9mm is going to have).

These requirements (especially the backstrap thing) really brings the competion down to - literally - a couple of designs.

If I were a CBSA agent, or a person in government who was serious about allowing our Border agents to protect themselves, I would want someone to re-jig the requirements to let the P229 DAK back in.

Then you would have a another bunch of women who can't hit the broad side of a barn with their pistols. The requirements sound like they got the same bunch of folks who wrote C 68 in the same room and told them to come up with the requirements for bids for this pistol.

I hope they get a tupperware gun, light as a feather and have to load the thing up with Ranger XTP's.

Take Care
