Anyone have any experience with these. wolverine has them for $430 and thought that was a good price for a Beretta. I like 40 cal. It seems like a good price, otherwise I'll probably get a Norinco for my first pistol.

Not much experience with DAO. Any opinions appreciated

Truth is the 92/96 platform wasn't designed for .40 cal in mind and many people suffered premature locking block failures and even slide cracking in some rare cases.

My previous duty gun was a 96D. I despised that thing. I would not recommend it. The trigger pull is extremely long. It means you have to shoot really slowly or accept that you will pull rounds. Not to mention that the frame was meant for 9mm which means lots of broken locking blocks and broken slides. My issued 96D eventually did have a slide break open and lock up the entire pistol.

Don't buy a 96D. I would buy a cheap glock or CZ-75 or even a cheap Norinco if you are that tight for money.

Don't handicap yourself with a DAO gun; it nullifies one of the primary advantages of the auto pistol over the revolver. Berettas don't lend themselves well to .40, either.

The reason those pistols are selling for such a low price is because nobody who isn't a police department would choose to buy one otherwise.

I was much happier when we switched to the Glock 22. The 96D was heavy also and a few folks would get the meat cut bad between the thumb and index finger because of the slide being so sharp.

meh nothing is wrong with it! get one. get a heavier recoil spring. 96 comes with the same spring as a 9mm for some reasn :S thats probably the cause of most durability issues... you can even get parts to convert it to sa/da but of course there wont be no safery or a deckoker. still would be worth it! and ones yu do that it will already have a D spring in it ;)

X 2!!!

Had 3 major failures with two different guns. Thank goodness we switched:
1. Trigger broke
2. Locking block cracked causing unrecoverable slide lock
3. Evenutally frame cracked

92 Model is fine but in a 40S&W platform there are tons of better options out there. Save your money.

If the 96D was a living organism, by Darwin's 'rules', it would have become extinct within the first generation....
As noted, there are so many other, better choices.....
Even if the thing didn't self-destruct, it has the world's worst DAO trigger pull.
I think you get the point....
