Both P38 & P1 versions are being sold, what's the pro's & con's ??
I googled this and P38 is the original gun and the P1 an earlier version..

Interesting, I have to do some research, I just bought a post war police P-38. I just liked it. But I don't yet know what the difference is between a Post P-38 AND P-1. Just a guess but mine (pics to follow) seems to be just a P-38 Top end on a post war alloy frame. Not sure why the slide is marked P-38:confused:

Of the post war variations, P1 was the German military designation, P38 was the commercial version IIRC. The only difference seems to be the markings. Later P1's seem to have a steel hex reinforcing bolt through the frame and a heavier slide.
Here is a post war p38 for comparision, notice it lacks the frame bolt and the shorter slide serrations indicate it's the standard weight slide.

The P1s also have a chrome lined barrel and a white dot front sight. Of course many of the older P38s may have been refurbished to include these features as aell.

Just picked her up today. Looks nice with some of my collection. I don't like the big 254 electro penciled on the P-38 slide. Like I said b4 I think they must have matched it with a P1 frame. Still looking into it. Heck I have'nt even had the thing apart for a cleaning yet.:runaway:

The slide and frame should have dates on them. It looks like a typical post war P38......same alloy frame as the P1's.

These are great double-action pistols for the price. I had one from P&S which was a real gem, unused, all-matching and not a refurb. It was also one of a final batch of P1's made for the Bundeswehr (1992). Kinda regret selling it but I like shorty AR's...:).

Ok, a direct question, why buy the P38 for more $$ if the P1 has improved features ??

I'm asking myself that very same question! My P-38 took about $100 and change more bones from my bank account than those nice P1'S I'm seeing on this thread! Crap I hate being an impulsive buyer:runaway:

Oh yeah! Thanks Hitzy for putten up my pixs, "It's magic" Gotta learn how to do that , links suck.
