Polish 2nd Corp

I'm surprised there hasn't been a documentary about the Poles in WW II.

I believe the allies wanted to sweep the Polish question under the rug after the war. They basically turned their backs on Poland as early as the big three summit. Churchill was furious that the US went along with Stalin and promised Poland to him. So my take is that ever since then, Poland's role was purposely lessened to ease the guilt. Just my take on it When you consider how large the Polish contribution was, it's quite shocking.

Sad part is, after all the fighting they did, they didn't get to go home. Stalin would have had them shot, to a man.

Grizz

My parents met and married in England after the war. They chose to come to Canada. My dad's older brother was already married, so he went back to Poland. He did spend some time in prison.

Notice the German helmet, as there were not many helmets available to the troops!

The Germans were notorious for using foreigners as soldiers in the German army. One of the first questions when a group was captured by the 2nd corp was (in Polish, of course): "are there any Poles here?". My guess would be that the German helmet wearing individual was a convert.....

My grandfather fought for the British in North Africa/Middle East, and also Italy after chopping wood for the Russians in Siberia. He lost his brother at Monte cassino where they were both fighting. I am named after my great uncle. Thank you for posting!
