The few Polish M44 guns I've seen were new or near new. Yours apprears to look like them.

Lou, I bought it here a year ago from another member. He said it was unfired so I have taken his word for it. When I got it the cosmo was still on the rifle. I then sold it to another member who harvested a moose with it (2 shots). I then bought it back. So as far as I know it has only fired 2 shots since leaving the factory.

The reason I asked about refurb marks was the little diamond shape marks all over the rifle. However I was mostly trying to show off my favourite milsurp. The Polish Mosin Nagant M44.

I was just thinking to myself that rifle looks familiar...:p

There was alot more grease(cosmoline) on it before I sold it to you also; I wiped most of the excess off so it would be easier to handle.

IIRC it was still oozing out of the bolt/firing pin hole.

I have had 4 of those unissued Polish M44's all 1953 dated and they all had the same markings. The only different markings I found was a number on the front sight either 1,2 or 3... Still dont know what they mean?

Oh yeah, the Polish bores are chromed.

Cheers

Hi Ryan! Yes it was full of cosmo! This one has a 4 in a circle on the front sight.

i was unaware that they have chrome lined bores...

her is mine; actually it is the second one, the first one I sold (still don't know why).

Actually now that I think of it some more I'm not 100% sure they do....

The last one I had is the one that Dave has now and all had mirror bores...

I think at one point in time I tried some cold blue on the muzzle of one and it wouldn't take at all; chrome won't absorb the bluing.

Maybe someone else will chime in on this.

Awesome rifles! Mine will be a hunter for sure. Look out spring bear!

My Polish M44 was made in 1955 and has the chrome lined bbl.
When I bought mine I knew nothing about the Mosin Nagants. I know a little more now and two things stick out about mine that has me scratching my head:
1. The bayo is not painted black
2. The bolt handle is bent
All the numbers match. Here are some old pics but nothings changed as it has sat in the cabinet.
