Hello everyone, I just acquired a 1954 polish m44. I have had my eye on these rifles for a while, best of all it was given to me as a wedding present!!!! After taking it apart and cleaning all the cosmo out it sits pretty in the safe.. not sure if I will fire it yet!! I would like to finish the stock, I am not sure what product to use on the wood. I would like to keep it as original as possible.

This gun is nearly flawless, just a little pitting on the butt plate. I imagine its from storing. Rifle will stay with me, being polish it has a little more sentimental value. I would like to protect the wood a little, maybe give it a little shine.

The Polish M44 has a boiled linseed oil finish. If it needs it give it a wipe over with blo.

They were done with boiled linseed oil "Pokost" in Polish, please post the photo of the rifle but most likely you don't have to do anything. They were heavily soaked in "Pokost" at the factory. Slightly pitted but plate means upright storage in Police Gun rack. "Milicja Obywatelska" had always few rifles at all police stations just incase there was a need for a long rifle

+1 I used boiled linseed oil on mine as well.
