Howdy fellas, I have a Polish M44 made in 1952, minus the cleaning rod and bayonet (finding replacements is on the back burner) I'm wondering how much it's worth?

The gun is minty overall but there was a touch of rust near the rear site, thought it would be nice to trade for a pistol or wheel gun before C21 can go through if it has much value

Cheers,
Jake

Hi Jake,
these used to go for about $650 complete, but now I've seen prices reaching $1300. Without the bayonet, cleaning rod and some rust you mentioned about I don't think you'll get more than $650-800 for your rifle. Of course, if you can find a motivated buyer...you may get more. Best of luck.

I think $650-$800 would be a stretch. $500 would be more realistic but what do I know, the market is f*cked. Proper cleaning rods and bayonets are quite hard to come by. You can see incorrect replacements a mile away due to the good quality of the Polish originals. Collectors care about those things and if it's being sold to a shooter, my suggested price might be more along what they're willing to pay.

One just like that was sold at a nearby table in Kamloops this spring. The fellow started with $500 and ended up taking under $400 for it. Finding those parts in Canada is difficult at best. Most folks that take them off, throw them away or lose them.

I think many of the bayonets available online likely came off of these before they were exported to the US, cleaning rod should be nicely finished stainless but I haven't gotten too deep in the search for the right one.

It's a really well made rifle with a good trigger and super crisp sites but you guys confirmed my thoughts that it could be anywhere from 500-1000+ depending on the buyer/collector

Cheers,
Jake

Rods are not SS. Just polished carbon steel.

Nobody is denying the quality of the rifle.

From what I've seen of the rifles imported into Canada without the bayonet, the mount was cut off, so that will have to be replaced as well.

There is one very similar to what you describe your rifle to be at the Lumby Gun Show right now.

The vendor has $450 on it, which will be open to offers.

One of the other vendors offered him $300 and you can see the temptation is there.

By the time you get the parts you need and install them, you could be looking at 3-6 months before you get them assembled, depending on shipping time.

If the job is visibly sloppy, $500 maximum to a collector, not much gain.

My advice to you is sell the rifle as is and get what you can out of it, unless you're very good with tools and have the resources to do the job in a similar fashion as the armory.

Aha if the lug was gone it would be far from mint no? I would never consider putting it back on if it was missing. I don't think its ever been fired and besides the touch of rust that I could probably rub out and touch up its in excellent condition!

You think a beat to sh!t surplus 91/30 is worth more?

Cheers,
Jake

Think about keeping it. A great little rifle and you will never find another one with out spending a whole lot more money than you'll get from selling/trading it.

Well he priced it at $1000 because someone undertook the labour to remove the bayonet, throw away that pesky cleaning rod and add some nice patina! That's $500 worth of great condition!

Have you seen many others for sale?

There's an M38 minus the cleaning rod and bayonet sitting for 875, multiple M44's around a thousand and one identical to this but complete for 1400, yes I think 1000 is fair, everyone is free to make an offer

Yes, I've seen dozens of Polish M44s for sale they are not rare and almost all of them are mint and complete. M38s do not have a bayonet, refurb cleaning rods are common. Complete refurb Soviet M44s at a grand are a bit high even in this market. A complete clean Pole for $1400 is overpriced and your bubba'd rifle with rust for $1000 is hilarious #######-esque pricing. If you get that price, good for you. There's a sucker born every minute.

100% I'm not in too much of a rush and I'll pull the ad if things are looking better at the end of the week. Times are tight!

Thanks,
Jake

Unless you really don't have anything better to do you're wasting your breath.

For only an extra hundred bucks over that M38 someone will get better machining and the option of installing a badass folding bayonet ;) if you don't like the free market you don't have to participate

Thanks,
Jake

Yeah, I didn’t see any, except for the promise of some, but I sure have noticed your misleading description that sounds borderline scam. Welcome to my ignore list.

If you think the short description with the promise of pics was misleading then I'm sorry to say you have bigger problems, I think a thousand is fair asking price

Thanks,
Jake
