Am I too late to the party? Used to be $300 and pretty plentiful only a couple years back. They seem hard to find and upward of $600 now... Just wondering if there is any chance of seeing more of them? Ever since I was given a Jungle Carbine I have gained an appreciation for milsurp rifles and one of the Polish M44s is very appealing.

I paid $300 for one that was unfired since landing, perhaps it was longer back than I figured. Couldn't be more than 4 years though. I was only into modern guns back then and let it go for what I paid without even shooting it...

Blegend is right... Polish M44's were going for $600 a few years ago. I have not seen many for sale lately. I suspect $750+ but keep in mind condition is a big factor. Matching and in the grease will always bring top dollar.

Now, to find a Polish 91/30 PU Sniper...

Everyone says how great they are, but I've never encountered a shooting report...because no one wants to shoot theirs!

Theres a fella at our range that brings his out a few times. I cant get over how much nicer the wood is, over most Mosins.

I've had 2 over the years. First one I bought in early '80's when they were common and selling for under a hundred bucks. Second one I came across in a small gun shop a few years ago. Price was great so I brought it home. Both were unfired (or test fired only) when purchased. Certainly never issued. My intention was to shoot them both and keep the more accurate of the pair. I had already shot the first one on several occasions. A good friend of mine (Polish decent) son was interested so I passed it on at a very fair price. It remains unfired in his collection.

As to shooting I've probably put 500 rds of cast through Carbine #1 over the years. Lyman #311299 sized 314 over a midrange load of H4198. Groups around an inch and a half at 50 yds which is probably as well as the old eyes see these days. Ironically I dry fired the Second one a couple times and the trigger pull on it was much better than my shooter. I would rate it better than most milsurps I've fired over the past 40 yrs. I was tempted to keep it and part with #1 but as my friend's son wasn't going to shoot his I passed it on to a good home.

He did have the opportunity to put 40-50 rds of cast through mine last fall just because he had never fired a MN of any kind.

The one I came across a few years back in LGS was definitely a Polish M44 Year of production was 53 or 54 if I remember correctly . There was still cosmoline in the bore. And !! the price was right. Sometimes you get lucky!!

In my view, the polish m44 is an overpriced mosin, because afterall it is only a mosin. The ones I've had we're the most inaccurate pieces of ####e I ever had the displeasure to own. They're ok to keep in the safe and pull out to show people, but as for shooters I've found 'em to be pretty lousy. YMMV.

Circle 11 1955 vintage from a good friend who did not want to renew his PAL. The 1/2 box of Russian ammo that he bought with the rifle (188/81) had a distributor sticker from Century Arms Ltd. Montreal.

Great trigger, better than the PU in the background. No extra charge for the fireballs:)

And yes, Photobucket is on the rags tonight.
